Hello, we are looking at booking a Backstage Magic trip in July 2018. It will be myself, Dh and my children, ages 13, 10 and 8 yo. I spoke with ABD and they said we would have two hotels rooms to hold all five of us. They were unable to guarantee that we would have connecting rooms unfortunately. I understand it's hard to guarantee that, but I'm hesitant to book a $15k trip where my husband and I might have to sleep separately.

Has anyone had trouble getting connecting rooms on these trips? Anyone with experience? Appreciate any insights.

I really believe it is "luck of the draw". The Guides will do everything within their power to get your rooms as close as can be. But, some hotels don't have connecting rooms available. Our family of three had two rooms on three occasions - none were connecting. In Spain, we were next door to each other. In Vienna, we were two doors down, in a castle in Germany, we were down the hall from each other. ( But, DD is in her early 20's. )

I would call the hotels and confirm that they physically have connecting rooms. as long as they do, I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's usually only in situations where the hotel doesn't have connecting rooms that it is an issue. We did the NYC trip and had connecting rooms.

Last June when we did the BSM trip we had connecting rooms at both locations. Both of the hotels used for this tour have a lot of connecting rooms so I think you have a high probability of getting connecting rooms, but they will not be able to guarantee it. On our most recent trip (London/Paris)we had amazing connecting rooms with a huge sitting room in London. In Paris, we had adjoining but not connecting so we split up with one adult in each room - kids are 14 and 12 but I was worried they would stay up all night watching TV or movies without an adult to enforce the go to sleep command. Make sure that you make a note of the request in your reservation, reconfirm it right before your trip and at the start of the trip with your Guides in connection with the hotel you switch to.

Chances are good you will have connecting rooms. They will never guarantee it ahead of time because it is the hotel making the last call... However it might be tricky since you have one room with two people and one room with three people. Some of the hotels do not have connecting rooms between doubles and triples (e.g. the Kempinski in Munich)

Both the Loews and either of the DL hotels (DLH or GC) do have connecting rooms. Can't comment on the guarantee part of the question.
