I am putting together a trip in December to include a cruise (wish I could afford Disney but doesn't look promising) ... we are however planning two nights post cruise at WDW. We would HAVE to have connecting rooms as we would want a room for DH and I .. and then a connecting room for our 15 yr old daughter and her best friend. All piling into one room just isn't an option .. SO ... how likely is it that if we request connecting that we can be GUARANTEED to get it?

You would have to be lead on one room and your DH in the other. There is no guarantee, however, having said that, we have requested that at least 20 times and have never not received it. Just make sure you not only request it when you book but also when you do your online check in. You also need to be aware that if you request a specific building (say 50's or 60's) you are less likely to get the connecting rooms. Your best bet is to allow them to decide where they can put you to make the connection work.
Have a great trip.

There is no way to 100% guarantee you will have connecting rooms. And unlike others, I have been denied them more than once.

You may want to look into a suite at AoA or ASMu. That will guarantee you will get the separate sleeping spaces you need. If you request connecting and don't get them one adult has to sleep in each room.

It might or might not happen but the one time we requested connecting rooms was at Pop. My parents had one room and my daughter and I had a connecting room. They won't guarantee it but if you don't get it - ask at the desk at checkin. Maybe they will be able to accommodate you.

Connecting rooms are NEVER guaranteed. And you don't need connecting rooms you want connecting rooms. First of all you can fit in one room. Secondly if you want two rooms you have two adults - one per room. A want not a need.
And yes, I too have been denied them.

I think they will only guarantee it if you have one adult and too many kids for room occupancy. Otherwise it's not guaranteed.

Here's the deal with connecting rooms....you may be told by reservations that they're guaranteed. They may even type that word in the notes on your reservation. And you may still get to the resort and find you don't have connecting rooms. There's no way for them to be guaranteed at the resort's end, because Disney does not block rooms at the time of reservation. In other words, it's possible for there to be more guests that request connecting rooms, than there are connecting room pairs at the resort.

That said, the resort staff does realize that it's an important request to you, and they will do their best to fill it for you. So yes, the chances you'll get your connecting rooms are good, especially if you make it your only request and aren't arriving at the resort late at night.

Even that isn't a guarantee. I remember reading here on the DIS about a family in that situation (one adult, multiple children) that were not given connecting rooms.

i will say that if your request is not available the day you arrive, it may come available a day or two into your trip, if you are willing to move....They are happy to grant requests when they have the availability.

There is no way to determine the odds of you receiving connecting rooms. In your situation, I would look into one of the suites.

0% chance you will be guaranteed them as there is no such thing, especially for your sort of situation.

If it is that big of a deal, then you need to look into other options then hope for the best.

Also, a 15 year old can not have their own room. An adult is required to be in both.

They're only staying for 2 nights though.

So what did they do? Stay in one room?

Two words: Family Suites

The cost is slightly more than the cost for two regular rooms at a Value Resort. For just two nights, it's a small price to pay to guarantee that you have connecting spaces. Book a Family Suite and you can be GUARANTEED that you will have connecting rooms.

A few years ago we were booked at ASSp with a request for connecting rooms. (2 adults, 5 kids) When we went to check in they told us there was a problem with our rooms, she didn't tell us what. She got on the phone and talked with someone for awhile. When she was done, she said they didn't have any connecting rooms available but they would move us to AOA- 2 little mermaid rooms, and gave us a $150 room credit on each room. We were thrilled of course, we had booked with free dining.
