Can you book two rooms at POR in the preferred section and request them connecting? Has anyone done this and got the request? Has anyone done this and not got the request? I'm considering it instead of a suite for my family of six at AoA....but would only stay at POR if in a preferred building. Thanks:)

The room we were put in last night in Preferred Building 14 was a connecting room to a corner room. Nice area too. Close to the food court & main bus stop & close to a nice quiet pool too.

I have done it twice as well. Make sure it's noted as a request on your ressie, and I would keep it my only request. If you have too many, they don't really know which is most important to you :)

It can be done, but not guaranteed. It totally depends on how busy the resort is and if they can accommodate your request.

One thing that helps is checking in early. If you check-in early in the day, you can reiterate your request and they may be able to make some changes to room assignments to accommodate you (if necessary). The later in the day you check-in, the less room inventory they have to work with so they may not have any options left.

Really? What about online checkin? Aren't those rooms assigned in the morning before you arrive?

They are assigned ahead of time, but it doesn't necessarily help with you requests. About two years ago, we had a good convo with a CM at POR who told us that the primary goal of the room assigners for online check-in is to get you into a room that will be ready when you arrive. Room assignments are looked at secondary to this, if at all. So, if you have done online check-in and put 11am as your arrival time and the ground floor rooms will be done by then but you requested a third floor room which won't be ready until 2pm, they will put you in a ground floor room.

It doesn't always go like that with online check-in, sometimes they will accommodate you. We just haven't had that experience yet.

ETA: No matter whether you did online check-in or not - all available room inventory is fair game until the guest arrives in person. In other words, if a guest is at the desk and complaining and you haven't arrived yet, they will switch out your rooms to make the guest in front of them happy. They aren't going to run the risk of leaving a guest miserable when you could still potentially be a no show. That's why the later you arrive, the harder it can be to get what you want.

Online check-in expedites the check-in process - all your paperwork is ready for you at a designated counter/desk.

If you think you may need extra time - for example, to get rooms reassigned - it makes sense to use the standard procedure.

I did online check in for our stay last Wednesday & our room & paperwork weren't ready when we got there. Requested first floor room in AB & had paid for preferred. Got there about noon time, about hour later than anticipated. They went ahead & switched me to a 2nd floor room in AB 14 - they wanted to put me in the mansions, but I said no since I'd paid for preferred.

No. All the reservations get sent to the room assigner about 4-5 days out.

I REALLY wish they would make a name change and call it Online Preregistration instead of online check in. You don't get checked in until you physically show up. All you are doing is registering your information.

So I'm confused....if you need connecting rooms, is it better to do online check in or not?

Whether or not you do online check in has zero affect on getting your requests met. During the process you have the option of getting into a room early or waiting for a room if you prefer to have your requests take priority.
