Confusing Question

Hi There,

Just a question about banked points.

Say i have 150 points banked from 2011, (I understand those points have to be used in 2012) Now does that mean the trip has to be in 2012, or can i book a trip for 2013, using the points in 2012 to book it?

I am spending the points in 2012 but staying at disney in january of 2013.
Does this make sense?

The trip would need to be completed prior to the end of the use year the points were banked into or the points will be lost.

The actual stay must occur before the points expire.

A January 2013 stay will be in your 2012 use year- since there is no January Use Years - the first day of 2013 use year you could have would be Feb 1st- and that is only for those who have a Feb use year. Therefore those points can be used for your stay no matter what your use year is.

I banked 160 points in 2011, and have booked to use 63 in January 2013. Planning on using 182 in June 2013, so we can bank 75 at the end of our December UY. When we want to use our banked 75, will the "used points" come from the previously banked first, so that we can bank another 75 the following year?

Does this make sense? DVC threw a wrench in it by doubling our points for one year, and even though the 160 in 2011 were an incentive to buy (we didn't pay for 320 pts, only 160) we still don't want to lose them.

Can we keep banking a few every year and wind up with a saved amount we can use for Europe etc for 2016/2017?

Do you mean will banked 2012 points just stay there, NO, they will expire. They don't accumulate.

All points use is based on date of stay. When you call for the reservation does not matter.

you paid for all points ,they just made your UY past your purchase date, did they pay MFs? no? didnt think so

December is my use year.
The postbefore you i think is my answer. When the stay is, is whenthe points are used.

Make sure when you book, YOU instruct that the points you want to use first are the banked points from the previous year. Don't leave it up to the CM to automatically "know" which points you want to use. Have your plan (points use) in mind when you make a reservation.

Make sure you bank your points 4 months before the end of your UY.

If you have a Dec UY, when you bought, you received:?

Dec 1st 2011 - Nov 30th 2012 = 160 points
Dec 1st 2012 - Nov 30 2013 = 160 points

If you have a Dec UY, then a January 2013 trip takes place in your 2012 UY. That trip can be booked using banked 2011 UY points, 2012 UY points, and borrowed 2013 UY points.

So, you will be able to use the points for that trip. Remember, everything is based on the UY, not calendar year, of the trip. With a Dec UY, the bulk of travel falls in a different calendar year so it can be tricky.
