Friends just returned from their first visit to WDW and are thinking about joining the Vacation Club. Their guide told them that if they joined by Monday, they would receive this year's points. They are confused as to what he was talking about. Any ideas? We joined in February and received points right away, and then received more points in August - our Use Year. I thought that is how it works all the time. Could the guide be talking about the ability to bank?

Also, does anyone know what Use Year is currently being sold at the BCV? Is there ever a choice of Use Years?

Thanks!

Let me try to help...I just put my down payment down on Wednesday of last week, so I'm a real newbie!

My down payment was at BCV...I got an August use year, but from my understanding I could have had a December use year also.

I also received my 2002 points (I purchased 175 points). So right now I have 175 points plus in August of 2003, my use year, I'll be able to get my other 175 points. I can also borrow from the 2003 points for my upcoming trip in May of 2002.

Does that make sense?

Sounds like a deceptive sales ploy.

If they were talking about VB or HH, there is a chance that the way use years are selling out, there is a remote possibility that what he said was true.....if they were talking about BCV and not asking for a specific use year, they were lied to.

DVC sales staff often uses lies and deceptive sales practices, it really is the one thing that give them a black eye.

Depending on how the use years are selling out, it is very possible that one could sign up next June and still resieve this year's points.

When you joined in Feburary, you recieved last year's points. They usually sell a use year that is six months prior to the current date. Availability and someone's personal desire can change this pretty easily.

Rich, I think Feb, 2002 were the first points available for BCV but they couldn't be used until the summer when BCV opened.

Tootsietoo, if your friends are thinking about using Magical Beginnings, persuade them not to. It's not worth the $5 pp. If they're thinking about buying off site (Vero Beach or HH) with the idea of using those points mostly at WDW, also tell them no. Otherwise, if one buys, it's common to get a use year and points that is back dated. They could likely get a Feb use year if they wanted and get the points from 2002 but it's unlikely they'd be able to use the points before they expired and they would not be able to bank them. If they travel a consistent time of the year, this might affect what use years are best for them, otherwise they want to get the most points possible.

Jennifer,
So right now I have 175 points plus in August of 2003, my use year, I'll be able to get my other 175 points.
Did you also have to pay the full dues for 2002 or will they pro-rate them for you?

-DC :)
