okay so we got the free dining plan for our upcoming trip we are staying 7 nights my question is...the day we check in will be late at night when do the meals start...we check in on a tuesday night 8p and check out the following Tuesday morning but do no fly out until late at night....does the meals start the night of check in and if we dont use them can we use the day of check out???because it is during the free dining not sure what the rules are

Yes, your meals start as soon as you check in, but are also good until midnight of the day you check out. You will have 7 TS and probably will not want to use one on the first night since your arrival is so late. You can also use them in any order you like. So if you want 3 TS in one day, go for it! But you will probably just use 2 on the last day or do a 2TS meal sometime in the week. Have fun!

The dining plan is organized by nights, not by days. As such, you will each have 7 TS, 7 QS, and 7 snacks (assuming regular DDP, adjust for other levels of plans) available to you when you check in (and a mug). These credits are pooled over the entire trip, so, if you wish, you may use all 7 at once (I'd not recommend it though ). This allows you to plan your dining as you see fit, rather than have to specifically do 1 TS and 1 QS each day and stuff.

As mentioned, the credits will expire at midnight following your checkout, so you can use them the day that you check out with no problem.

As a note, free dining has no affect on the rules of the dining plans themselves, only the cost, minimum ticket purchase, and availability of the discount itself.

The other posters have covered this nicely. I don't like to use a TS on our arrival day, even if we get in mid-afternoon. Just feels that after getting to the airport, a 4 hour flight, getting to the Disney resort, wanting to hit a park, that doing a sit down TS just isn't practical or wanted. We use it as an opportunity to do a signature dining or one of the shows that require 2TS, in this instance for our upcoming trip we are doing the Hoop Dee Doo which is 2TS.

I'd look at using your counter service entitlements on arrival and check out days then treat yourself to something special with the extra entitlement.
