Confused

I also think that in the long run camping is cheaper. We only eat our once during our stay, so we really do save alot of money on food. Even if that wasn't the case, I would still prefer The Fort to anywhere else. The atmosphere is great. Even the CM's are friendlier at The Fort.::MinnieMo:smickey:

Don't confuse COST with VALUE. You get far more bang for the buck at the Fort as it has been mentioned by others. To me its like being home for the holidays when we go at Christmas. Think about a smaller version of a Norman Rockwell neighborhood all decorated for the season. You can spend nice quiet evenings on a golf cart cruising around looking at your neighbors sites and oohing and ahhhing at how elaborate some campers are.

That's true. Where else can you get the Chip and Dale campfire and Disney movies every night at no additional charge. You also have the freedom of not being couped up in a hotel room. You can walk, socialize, and just basically enjoy yourself. What you said about Christmas is true. The campgrounds are decorated more than people decorate at home. We now have to decide if we should do Disney this Christmas or spend it with our 14 month grandson and the new grandbaby that is due in November. I hate to miss it with them, not that they would remember it, but I also hate to miss Disney at Christmas. The Fort and Disney is just the most majical place to be. I think, unless you have been to The Fort, you don't understand what makes it so special.:earsboy:

I'm sure that if you are in a tent or small trailer, camping might be cheaper. In my experience, my motorhome costs about $250 per camping day by time you figure purchase price, repairs, insurance, roadside emergency coverage (assuming 20 camping days per year). Add an average of $200 in gas per trip (@250 miles from home x 2 ÷ 7.5mpg x $2.75). Add camp site fees and you are really getting into some money... about $300 per day to stay at a state park, and about $450 per day to camp at Disney (higher site fees, more gas). Airfare and a Value is certainly cheaper, at least for us. But, we can't take our pups to Pop, so the Fort it is! We love, Love, LOVE the Fort!

We live 1000 miles from The Fort. It wasn't too bad when gas was .99 a gallon. Luckily we get about 10mpg and a MH is certainly comfortable to travel in. Like you, we can't take Elmo and Tinkerbell to the hotels. They enjoy the stay as much as we do. So, to The Fort it is. We would go more often if it was closer. That's one reason that we stay for 2 weeks, the gas is almost as much as full hook up reservations at value season. However, Christmas is another story. I love The Fort at Christmas, but I don't love the price. All resorts are high during that time, so I guess it doesn't really matter.:mickeyjum:mickeyjum

We usually visit the fort about 5-6 times a year. We only go to the theme parks maybe twice. We mainly just enjoy the campground.

We got back a month ago from a 2 week stay split between 3 hotels. 1 night at All Stars Music, then 7 nights with a Magic Kingdom view on the 10th floor at Bay Lake Towers then 5 more nights with a Savannah view at Animal Kingdom Lodge. But when we made a couple of trips to visit the Fort, we missed it soooo much. Even though we have DVC, we'll be using our points at the Fort from now on. It really feels like "Home." That is worth more than any view or theming. We could stay at Old Key West for about the same number of points as a site at the fort, but to us, it's the feel that counts. A REAL vacation.
