There is always one issue after another, does it ever end ?? We have planned this trip for almost a year now, Next week is the oldest GD's exams, 9th grade, because of snow days they will not get out of school till Friday June 12th, test are going on till then. We have our Ressies coming in Friday morn, which we were planning on leaving Thurs morn around 8:00 am, driving to Orlando, get a room, then next morn check in to Resort, then go to a Park, well, now we can't leave till Friday afternoon around 2:30, putting us getting to the Resort early Sat. morn, does this stink or what ????
Yes, i have talked to the principle, and they will not let her go Thurs. morn to another Math class and take the exam, why not,????? I am getting more frustrated by the minute.

They have an exam scheduled on the LAST day of school????????? :scared1:

I hate to say it but you need to get on the horn and move your check-in by a day. :(

They sure do, hard to believe, huh

Your granddaughter has probably known this since February . . . I have a 9th grader -- I know how they operate.

Our snow day make-ups are actually on our calendar up to a point, so you know if you miss Feb. 2 then you go to school June 4, etc. I understand the principal saying "no" b/c they drill in exam dates for weeks/months and how you must be there, and I can guarantee you are not the only person who has made such a request.

If she only has one exam, you can probably take her out before 2:30, though. Our schools have early dismissal on exam days -- you might want to see if she does. Also, if it's one exam, and it's over at 11, then I'd definitely get her then.

Thanks, yes we knew about the snow days, but didn't know about the testing days, also i thought that i read somewhere, where no testing could be done on the last day of School, am i correct ????
I know of another School in the next county over from us, that let four of the girl's that are on my GD's Dance Team take their's early, but our county won't. I just finished e-mailing the Superintendent of our county. Maybe i will get some answers.

Our finals are always on the last day of school for the high school kids. What else would they be doing on the last day?

The school has an exam schedule. They don't have to change it to accomodate everyone who wants to leave for vacation. I think you will have to adjust your plans.

Have a good time.

Guess, i forgot about High School rules, since i only had one child, and that's been forever ago, oh, well crap happens

Uhhh nothing. I can't remember EVER doing anything of value (education-wise) on the last day of school.

HA! Things are really different around here. I make copies at a high school, and I have made one copy of a final for several teachers to give to students leaving for vacation early. AND - we don't have "snow days", everyone has known for over a year when the last day of school is, and yes, they give finals in HS on the last scheduled day of school.

If they really won't make an exception, lesson learned. HS is really different than the lower grades.

It's not going to make that much difference in your plans, so just change your reservations if you must and have a great time!! :yay:

Skip the Principal you were fed the party line as I would have expected. This is a situation where I would proceed directly to the teacher and ask if DD could take the test early, otherwise change your ressies. Snow days stink.

Our school district ends the year on a Wednesday but it is the unspoken rule to never make going out of town plans until Saturday, just in case.
The last 3 days are half days and the kids have finals each day.

I drove through Danville on Friday night and again on Sunday. Even stopped for gas there, I waved, did you see me?

I went to San Jose with my DD to visit my SIL for the weekend since my Bro is out of the country for 3 weeks on business.

I have a DD who is a Junior. I must admit when I was a freshman mom I asked the school to do things like change dates etc... I learned quick and hard that schools don't break the rules for vacations, sick children etc. They are highly regulated and if they want to schedule an exam on the last day, they file with the state and your child has to be there. I know it sucks, but don't make her stress over it, tell her its fine so she will be relaxed for her exam and change your dates. I am sorry this happened but I have learned HS is an ever changing schedule.

Take some deep breathes and really have a great time.

Wow. So nobody knew until this week that she would have FINALS on the last day of school which would be later due to snow days? :rolleyes1

I don't see the problem here. I'm sure the school notified the kids and parents well in advance. As far as I know there is no law that says schools can't give tests whenever they like, including the last day of school. Yeah, it sucks, but there's nothing you can do about it.

DD16 has finals the last 3 days of every semester. The school rule is that NO ONE can take their tests early. Period. If they miss a test and are not in the hospital or at a close family members funeral they cannot take the test later and they fail the class.

On the plus side, you don't have to cancel the vacation. Go with the flow and have a great time with the family.:cheer2:

High school is a whole other ball game. We have had issues with DD15's school giving us a hard time about taking her out for vacation days. Our school calendar has the last day of school on it but also has notes that we should not schedule vacations until after a week after the last day to account for snow days (we only had 2 this year).

I'm surprised by some of the responses. We always (when I was in school, and as a teacher) have exams the last 3 days of school. Why would you have a day to do nothing?:confused3 Also, I've never been at a school that would let you take an exam early. My principals have always been really strict about that. The reasoning is simply that if you do it for one child, you'll have a dozen more wanting an exception made for them.

It does suck for your vacation plans though. I hope things work out ok (including the issues with you sil's girlfriend).

***Someone posted to go to the teacher. As a teacher, I am not allowed to give an exam early. My principals have all had this rule.

Any chance she can take it upon her return, even though school is out? My middle DD found herself in a similar position (can't remember the circumstances but it wasn't by our request) as a senior and they were going to have her take the final after school was out. Turns out she had an A in the class so they just waived the exam altogether. Might be worth asking at any rate.
