we are going to diney for thanksgiving this year. i want to make sure everything is perfect. i have booked the place to stay (offsite). we have not decided if we should fly or drive. i have found airline tickets for new orleans to orlando (direct flight) the week of thanksgiving for $191 each. the trip is 11-12 hours long by car. by plane 1-2 hours. i would like to save the money but we really don't want to drive, after all this summer we went on a 19 hour trip to north carolina. if we would fly we could arrive at the park a day early. help what should we do???

There is enough stuff to keep you entertained at Disney for your entire vacation. As such, a car really isnt needed unless you intend to explore central florida. Just my 2 cents

DH and I have driven from NJ a few times- never again!

The fare price you got is not too bad. And an extra day in the park is always a plus!

FLY!

Since you are staying off site, the answer to your question may lie in your hotel. Does it have shuttle service to WDW? If it does, by all means, fly!! If it does not, you will need your car. We live in East Tennessee, which is at least 12 hours by car (even at the speeds my DH drives :rolleyes1). We drove the first three times my DH and I went and the first two times we took our DS. After we flew the first time, we promised never to drive again unless we had no other choice. The 1-2 hour flight is great, and you can add another day (or two) to your stay because you don't have to spend them driving. The fair you got is a great one. We paid $318 each last year. :scared1: You might want to consider staying on-site so you won't have to worry about whether or not you will need your car then you can fly for sure.

Which airline are you looking to travel on? Do some research and you may be able to get a better rate although what you have sounds pretty good. Your time is valuable and I wouldn't want to do that much driving around the holidays.
We always fly then rent a car once we are there. If you have the Entertainment book use it to find the best deal on car rentals!!

Ok I Forgot To Mention That We Are Staying At A Pool Home So Mwe Would Need To Rent A Car When We Get There. We Would Be Flying Delta

As one of the previous replies said, your decision on whether to drive or fly depends on the hotel you are staying at. Most hotels have a shuttle (or have contracted through Mears) but then there's a fee and limited schedule that they run on. We've driven from Virginia on our last five trips (about 12 hours each time) but don't mind it because we know where to stop along the way. With the airfare quote you have I'd say you're better off to fly and then rent a car when you get to Orlando.

Would it be an option to stay onsite- for the additional $$ you would be putting out for rental car- you can stay onsite- did you get a price for an onsite hotel???

How many people are going with you?? 191.00 isnt bad for 2 or 3 people but when you start adding more people- it gets a bit pricey!

We flew nonstop RT from New Orleans to Orlando 12/22-12/26 and paid $389 for 2 adults. That was less time and less $ for gas than driving!

I would recalculate and see what the difference is when staying at the home w/ a rental car and onsite- w/o- :confused3
