Confused with Aulani purchase and making DVC reservations

I purchased Aulani back in July and my use year is June 2011...so I called this morning at my 7 month window thinking that I was able to make a June DVC reservation for Disney World but member services told me I can only make reservations after the August 29 opening of Aulani. Does this sound right? I know I read something like this on the boards a while back but just trying to make sure....

That is correct. You can not use your Aulani points anywhere until the resort is open.

That's correct. Since the resort is not open yet, there are no points available to use yet. You won't actually have points available to use until the after the resort opens. We have a Dec. UY, so we won't actually get our first set of Aulani points until Dec. 1, 2011. For us that makes no big deal since we aren't planning any visits there until 2012.

The same thing happened to us when we purchased VGC. The resort officially opened in Sep. 2009, and we couldn't actually use any points until after the start of our UY after the resort opened. I was able to call when they started taking reservations and make a reservation, but it couldn't be until after my UY began. I was traveling at that time anyway and wanted to stay at VGC, but I had to switch my days to stay around to be actually after my UY began.
