We've been using the Disney Visa CC for monthly spending like gas/groceries and paying it off each month (most times I send a payment every 2 weeks online). So today I'll be using it to take advantage of the 6 mo no interest for our upcoming trip. I already have charges on the card for monthly spending and not able to make a payment to zero it out since one was just made. When I spoke to a rep last night it sounded as if once I charged the resort any payment made would only go to that and not toward purchases previously made??? I spoke to someone else today to verify and she said that was not the case. According to her my previous balance (what we've spent this month) will be paid first then after that any extra payments made each month will strictly go to the 0% balance. Also that I can continue to charge on the account with monthly spending without accruing interest on that. How is that possible if any payments automatically go to the 0%? I've never done this before and just want to make sure I have all the facts to avoid getting hit with interest charges. Thanks in advance!

I was also told that only extra money would go toward the 0%...but I havent tried it yet.

just as an FYI - in order to get the 0% on your vacation you have to book a package, not just a room. It took me awhile to figure this out.

Oh, good to know! I do have a package this time but that's good info for future reference! Thanks!

I'm ok with not using the card after I pay the package (although I do like using it rather than my debit card at the gas station etc.) I'm most worried about the charges I already have on the card.

It's been a few years, but we had a previous balance and added our vacation package to it. Paid off the previous balance with no problem and paid off the vacation package in six installments over the 6 month 0% financing. However, we did not use the card again until the package was paid for, just in case.

Any payments you make will go first towards the "regular" purchases and any extra will then be applied to the 0% balance. If you just pay the amount of your charges that month, your bill will be paid off, the vacation balance will remain and still be at 0% for 6 months from when the charge was made.

The only exception is for returns or credits back to your account - they are applied toward the vacation balance for some reason. So if you buy something for $30 at Target and put it on your Disney Visa and later return it and it's credited back to your card, the $30 will come off the vacation balance on the next bill. Weird, I know, but true!

Also a little note - if you charge your deposit first and the package balance later, they will be separated with different 0% expiration days. The 6 months starts from when you make the charges. Payments will go towards the one that's expiring first.

It sounds complicated, but it's really not! It works just like it should and you really do get 6 months to pay it off interest free. Even if you don't pay it off in the 6 month time frame, you are only charged interest on the remaining balance, but with everyday charges too, that might get complicated, so maybe that situation would be best to avoid.

Thank you HLAuburn, interesting about the refunds! I've already paid off my deposit, so I'm not worried about that one. That cleared up whether its deferred interest or interest free for 6 mo. Yea, I'm planning to have it paid off before the end date so as to avoid any extra mental clarity issues LOL

The way I understand it is you cannot make any extra payments... For example you can't pay untilyou are billed for it. i.e. for example if you have an account closing date of the 1st and you charge something the 3rd and you send both the balance and the amount you charged the 3rd that extra amount will go towards your 0%balance and not towards your purchase the
"3rd" because it's not "on the bill" per se . Does that make any sense to you

Yes it does, thank you. After thinking it over awhile that was sort of what I thought might happen. But its really good to have it verified. Ugh, I suppose it isnt that complicated after you know, just need to get all the rules straight & remember them LOL
