Hi,

I've been trying to find ways to save some money and have been lurking on the Budget Board. I finally have the courage to ask about mypoints. Is it truly free? I guess what I'm trying to say is, Is it considered taxable income? Please share. TIA!

My guess would be no because there is no cash involved. You receive gift cards when you redeem points.

Yes there is no charge to belong to Mypoints been with them for years. Lately I don't buy all that much but when I need to buy something I go through their site, see if where I want to shop is affliated with them and then make my purchase through the site. Let me give you an example. I needed a garden cart, I saw it as Sears online, I went through the Mypoints site and then to Sears..now remember this is something I was going to buy anyway. I earned points for each dollar of my purchase (before tax) printed out my receipt & picked it up at the Sears. The points don't show up immediately but they do get credited. Its not really "income" per se, when you get enough points you go to the rewards section and choose what you want/need. I usually get gift cards for gas stations or a place like Cracker Barrel. Like I said I don't buy much most of my points come from getting their emails for "Bonus mail points" scroll all the way down on the email and click the link to visit the participating site for 5 points...I think you get the idea...don't be afraid its actually fun and theres more sites through them to make purchases then you may think...need to send someone flowers, go through mypoints and earn points, want a magazine subscription go through them, pet needs, same thing !

I'm not a big MYPOINTS shopper, I pretty much just click thru the emails and rack up my 5points. I do OK. Manage to get enough gift cards to supplement my Christmas shopping and maybe a few others througout the year. No complaints here, except that I would love to be a big winner on some of the spin games.

I was really liking Mypoints until I ordered my first $50 reward gift card, and never received it. They said it was sent, and I've emailed them twice. I get a general reply that thet're looking into it, but after 3 months, nothing.

I like it well enough. Sometimes the emails are annoying but I've cashed out for GC's a few times and have been very satisfied. You have to be committed to really reap the benefits, but, if you have the time, it is worth it. Good luck!

Wow that never happened to me but I wouldn't let up until I got it..keep in touch with them, you've earned it

I've been a member of Mypoints since 1998. In a year, typically cashout $75-$125 in gift cards. So far this year, cashed out for 2 ea $25 CVS, 1 ea $10 Lowes, and one $10 Walgreens. Mostly just click on the email links, print coupons, attempt the surveys and when I buy on Ebay, Best Buy, JC Penny, etc, will go through the Mypoints link.

I've NEVER gotten any spam from this website. Check the Easy Points section before you sign up for newsletters, I've gotten points for signing up for MY Coke Rewards, Betty Crocker, TGI Fridays, Reward TV etc.

Never had a gift card not be sent, although some take longer than others. If you want to save your points to give at Christmas, cash out before mid November to be certain to receive them in time. Actually, end of October would be better, gift cards can go out of stock and won't be relisted until they are back in stock, sometimes a month can go by before that specific card is relisted.

It's a great program for very little effort.

yes its free... you dont really get CASH its all in gift card form! I love it!!! Use it all the time...:) So so so so happy with it

I happen love mypoints.com it really really easy to rewards program.

I have cash many times this year a lone Marrioott Gift cards, BP gift cards and may restuarants gift cards.

Not mypoints specifically, but any other reward sites I belong to say if you earn over $600, you are supposed to report. One of the sites I belong to won't cash you out anymore after $600 until you submit info for them to send you a 1099. I've never gotten to that point, but cumulative over different sites it is over $600, so I report just to be on the safe side. I'm at a place in taxes where that doesn't really effect my income bracket.

I report mine on line 21, Other Income.

I have received GC's from them that I almost sent to the shredder because I thought it was junk mail.

MyPoints is OK..so far I've gotten a total of $100 in Rainforest cafe gift cards (not crazy about the place but since it's in DTD at Disneyland Resort it makes for a good meal for the grandkids.) I pretty much just do the clickthroughs. For shopping and surveys I go through Sunshine Rewards since they give Disney gift cards..I'm almost at my second $100.00 one. If Sunshine Rewards does not offer the shopping site I plan on using then I'll check with MyPoints. I do print coupons from My Points and that gets a few extra points.
I've never had an issue getting the gift cards.

Same here! I ordered an Amazon GC from them and almost threw it away because there wasn't even a card in the envelope - they just sent a letter with the Amazon Claim Code printed on it.

I like MyPoints. I mostly just do the click-thru e-mails for 5 points each, and sometimes will do surveys or other "Easy Points" things if I have some time, so I don't earn a whole lot. But it is free and only requires as much effort as you want to give to it.

I do most of my online shopping through another site (when I remember, lol) because it pays in cash.

Me too! I thought mine didn't come and sent an email saying I never received it and myacct. shoed it had shipped. They relied they were looking into it. Then I checked a stack of junk mail on the counter and it had come but hubby thought it was junk.

I just joined mypoints back in May, and it's been going OK. I have just over 3000 points, and I'm saving up to either get a walgreens card to get a disney card, or just the visa gift card. I've also used ebates for a couple of years, and I've earned just over $60, which isn't that much, but every bit still goes into our DISfund! Now I've been checking who has the better return -ebates or mypoints- before I make any online purchases. I also joined quickrewards.net a few weeks back, but I don't seem to be earning as fast...
but to reiterate, ebates is legit and great!

Thank you so much for all the replies!

I feel much better now!

I also have been using mypoints, I like it its really easy. I cashed out walgreens gc and then exchanged for disney gc at the store. I have a question though. Can I log into mypoints account from my work computer and home computer? I remember once someone saying they got their account frozen for this, or am I making that up? Thanks.

Yes, I login from both home and work. I have been with Mypoints for 10 years. It's a good and easy program.
