Confused as to room availability

I am a fairly new DVC owner with points at AKL. We will be travelling late next fall and all the savannah studios and 1 bedroom values are booked for most if not all of my week but when I go on the Disney site, they seem to have rooms in these categories to rent for the entire week. Am I correct in assuming that these rooms, although the same as the DVC rooms, are a separate entity?

That's correct. Disney retains ownership of < 10% of the room inventory at each resort, and they rent those out via the Disney reservations site. Also, when owners use one of the exchange options to book at a non-DVC resort, DCL, ABD, etc, a room of comparable value goes to the Disney reservations site and the proceed go to cover the cost of the exchange.

Long story short, the rooms you see on the Disney site are not part of the member inventory.

Thanks. I assumed as much. Pity. We had booked a value studio room for the week at Jambo but bought some more points on a recent cruise and decided to upgrade. Savanah rooms are basically gone at both Kidani and Jambo house but we did decided to do a split stay with four nights in a Jambo 1 bedroom, standard view and keep the last three days in the value. Still not sure if I should change the 1 bedroom to Kidani but we do like the convenience of the Mara QS. The size difference is not as big a deal as convenience at this point but still not 100% sure what to do. Regardless, we love ALKL and will be happy anywhere.
