Confused about Uber/Lyft Times

Where I live we don’t have Uber or Lyft. So reading up about it, you’re supposed to order it when you’re at the location to be picked up. So at the curb, not still in your Disney hotel room.

But whenever I look at the app & enter a destination, it gives me a time that is 20 - 30 away.

People talk about waiting a couple minutes so what am I missing?

I don't know what you're missing, but I've never waited more than a few minutes

The time displayed is the expected time you will arrive at the destination, not the expected time for pickup. The app does not make this entirely clear.

This is correct. On the Uber rider app, it says the time is dropoff time, but it's small type and not very noticeable. Not sure about Lyft.

When you enter a destination, you will select the class of service -- X, XL, etc. Once you do that, the app will show you the eight closest cars and the time shown next to the cars is the expected drive-to-pickup time.

Once you order the ride, you will see your driver moving toward you, although there is a little lag in the GPS and they are closer than they appear.

It is very important to be AT your pickup spot when you order -- and don't move. If you move around, or order in one place as you're walking to the pickup, it makes it very difficult for the software to pinpoint your location.

Lyft emphasizes the time between now and your pickup, and provides the estimated eta for your destination.
