Medications

You may bring all prescription and over-the-counter medications (liquids, gels, and aerosols) including petroleum jelly, eye drops, and saline solution for medical purposes.

You are not limited in the amount or volume of these items you may bring in your carry-on baggage. BUT if the medically necessary items exceed 3 ounces or are not contained in a one-quart, zip-top plastic bag, you MUST declare to one of our Security Officers at the checkpoint for further inspection.

What does it me "you must declare it to a security officer?" I have been stressing out about my saline solution! Also, does sunscreen fall into this category?

It just means you have to tell them you have it and point it out to them.

It means take it out and show them before putting through xray. Does not include sunscreen

"I have saline solution here."

And that's a big NO about the sunscreen. Makes no sense, but there ya go...

I learned the hard way about sunscreen. I bought a brand new tube from Clinique, $18 at the time. Not thinking, I was moving things around last minute and put it in my carryon. $18 down the drain.

I put all of our medically needed liquids in a gallon sized ziploc bag and put that in the bin beside my regular 3-1-1 quart sized ziploc bag. Putting the items in a big ziploc bag makes it easy to pull out of my carryon and makes it highly visible to TSA. Sometimes the TSA agent will pull me aside after going through security and they'll want to open bottles and swab the opening but that's the most I've ever had to deal with. The only "declaration" I've done is pulling that clear ziploc bag out of my carryon and putting it in the bin.

Travellers experiencing this kind of demand might want to have the individual wanting to open a bottle change their gloves and if a swab is used, make sure it is a new one for each item.

My husband was on injectable meds once when we flew. He had a ziploc bag of prefilled clear liquid syringes He had about 20 with him and when he got to the belt as he was taking of his shoes he said to the agent standing there, I have prefilled injectable syringes. she said OK, just leave them in your bag. That was it! We weren't stopped, checked asked anything else at all and the guy looking at the machine didn't bat an eye.

Now sunscreen and hair spray, that's a threat! :confused3

DD has diabetes. We always inform them about needles and insulin. They have always just said OK
