Confused about rope drop.

We are staying off property. With all the new changes and being at the park during spring break it seems planning is crucial. We do not have the option of early morning entry. Does it still make sense to get to the park 30 min before it opens? Many posts seem to be in agreement that right after early opening the lines are still long. So if the park opens at 9 and is open to on property guests at 8:30, what time should we get there? Or does it even matter if we get there first thing. If the lines are at 60-90min waits at open will it be any different than going in the afternoon? What is the best option to get the most out of the day?

Definitely do rope drop if you want to maximize the day. How early you want to get there is up to you. If you get there 1/2 hour before, you should be able to get to the front of the rope drop crowd. Then you’ll be able to get in a short line for your first ride (depending on how quickly you walk) If you get there later, you’ll still be able to ride pretty quickly, but the popular rides will already have a wait.

Thank you for the advice!!

I think arriving 30 minutes early will position you well to be let in. Any hope of the popular rides like FOP/7DMT/SDD/RotR would be tough ... I'd probably plan to either try for $LL or get in standby lines in the evening for shorter waits. But at 9 am there will still be short waits for many rides.

And keep in mind, at MK Adventureland and Frontierland are not open until 9 am so you can definitely Rope Drop BTMR or Jungle Cruise!

Just to manage expectations I'd mention that 60 minutes wait for the popular rides will probably be the lowest you will see during a spring break trip. And yes that's probably at park opening. In the mid day through late afternoon those waits are more like 120 minutes or more.

I would definitely plan for at least 30 minutes to opening and you will still have an advantage.

Magic Kingdom only opens tommorrow land and fantasyland for early entry. So you can rope drop Adventure land and Frontier land at park opening. I’d definitely suggest getting to MK 60 minutes before park open.
