I know this has been discussed at length but... Dw & I are considering ddp for our 34th anniversary in May. I understand the basics of the plan, but am confused about how they handle the tip. Do they add the tip on a separate bill and is 18% automatically added? Thanks, in advance for anyone clearing up my fogged mind.

Unless you are a party of 6 or more the gratuity is not automatically added to DDP. You leave what you consider appropriate as a tip.

We just returned and here's what we experienced. We were a party of 4, using the DDP. At the end of the meal, the waiter brought our bill that had all of our food listed with prices. At the bottom of the check there was the area to write in the tip and what an 18% and 20% gratutity would be. You could then either write an amount on the line (any amount you want) or write cash if you are planning on tipping in cash and give them your room key. Then the server will bring back a new receipt for you to sign with any charges that weren't covered by the plan (extra drinks, appy, etc) and the tip amount you specified. You sign that bill and that's it! Hope that make sense. Basically, the tip amount is completely up to you and you can pay however you want!
