I read that it is only held now on the very long cruises and the traditional 7 day cruises no longer qualify. I also read that Disney changed their mind and it is back the way it usually was including the 7 day cruises.

Does anyone know what is official protocol now ???

Someone reported that it had been lowered back down to 7 days, was being held in the WDW theater, and the rice crispy treats were still being given out at the end as you exited the theater. Is this erroneous ???

This was true on the 15 night EBTA cruise. Being held in the theater allowed them to explain how scene changes were done, and actually show us a couple of scenes. There were 700 Gold and Platinum cruisers on our cruise.

I hope they have something like this on 7 night cruises.

We were on a 7 night AND 6 night B2B in April/May, both had the gold/platinum reception on The Magic.
It not in the theater and yes we received the rice krispy treats (YUM) when we left.

The change was effective 1 May. Was your second leg started before that?

7 night started April 30th
6 night started May 7th

My son and his wife were on a 5 night Baja (Wonder) and had a reception on their cruise as well, they sailed May 7th as well.

We were on the May 6th Magic cruise from San Juan to Port Canaveral which was 6 nights and we had the reception. It was held in Fathoms at 10:30 AM on our only sea day (Thursday). They served Mimosas, Kir Royales, and wine. There were passed trays with fresh fruit, three different mini appetizers and cookies. Upon leaving, we had the choice of plain Mickey Rice Krispies treats or ones dipped in chocolate.
The cruise director, Leslie, made a little speech about how DCL appreciated our loyalty and told us to look forward to the new ships. There were several other officers walking around and visiting some of the tables but the captain was not there.

Good to hear, Lorimay.

Although I enjoy the receptions, I do wish the character greets/photos were at the end of the reception. We have no interest in it and at times that part takes forever.

This was the first time we have done one since our first gold invitation ( we are now platinum). We had time before our Palo reservation so we say what the heck lets go check it out. We enjoyed it, Leslie was our cruise director and she spoke for a little bit. It was not long at all, I want to say maybe a little less than an hour. I agree about the characters, they have to squeeze through the tables and its awkward to try to get a picture.

Has anyone been on a 7day Fantasy cruise lately and experienced the Castaway Reception ??

I'm also eager to hear if the receptions are at least on the 7 nights. My next DCL (1st as gold) is on a 5 night MDAS in January, but my extended family wants to book a 7 night next year too.

We were on the Norwegian Fjords 7 night on the magic (June 4th-11th) and there was no reception.

This is the first I've heard of this! Very frustrated as we sail in Oct. on a brief 4 night as my first sailing at Platinum. :worried:

This is very disappointing to hear. Anyone who has cruises planned should be sure to note it on their survey that is was a disappointment if you don't get the reception that you have come to enjoy, or send a letter to the cruise line after they get back. Disney does listen, they just need to hear from enough of us Loyal Guests.

When the word first came out about the changes I sent an email to DCL expressing my disappointment. They sent a very nice note back and thanked me for my feedback. I have a 7 night cruise planned in a month or so and am not expecting to have a reception at all. We were on in April (Easter and SWDAS) and missed the reception because of Palo Brunch on Easter Sunday.

It would be nice if they brought it back for the 7 night cruises, but I am not holding my breath.

No reception on a 7 day Wonder. I was a little disappointed as we just made gold, but its not the end of the world. I made a earlier comment on a different thread that maybe they could have a special lunch area on embarkation day, just to give a little thanks to the cruisers who come back. Stupid maybe but the thought could go a long way. Call it a "Welcome Back" luncheon... They are feeding you anyways... can't be that hard!

That would be nice, something to look forward to as we board, getting cruise info from staff up front. I can see the issue being most of the Officers are very busy on embarkation day making it difficult to have any at a reception. I think we have missed the last 4 or 5 since they always seem to conflict with our PALO Brunch. On our 15th cruise however, while visiting with the Cruise Director she asked why we didn't do the reception, told her about Brunch. Later that day went back to room and found 2 Mickey Krispies on the table. We saw her later and thanked her saying we had no complaint about missing the reception since we talk with Officers as we see them and the Kristies were such a nice surprise; we always hope to make reception however prefer the early brunch seating so often miss them.
