I thought you could not bring a cork screw or nail clippers in your carry on or a razor. But I just looked at the tsa guidelines
http://www.tsa.gov/interweb/assetlibrary/Permitted_Prohibited_12_18_2003.pdf
and it says you can if I am reading it right. We are doing a quickie trip to ft. lauderdale and trying to do only carry on's I wanted to bring a bottle of wine and a cork screw and my disposable razor as well as DH's electric razor, will we be ok? thanks

Hi Ann,
Yes, you can bring the wine, the cork screw (no danger in that item) disposable razor (nope, they are not sharp and cannot be broken apart to become a weapon), and the electric razor, in fact you can bring your knitting, nail clippers, crocheting and small blunt scissor to cut the yarn, BUT....don't you DARE bring 3 lighters on board. :)

I understand the need for security and abide by their rules, but, I just have to ask, WHO made up this list?

I am shocked but delighted that I can bring my corkscrew...
heck I will just go downstairs now and celebrate with a glass of wine!

just make sure it doesn't have a small blade attached for cutting the foil. They will either confiscate the cork screw or break off the blade. See picture below. these are disallowed due to the blade.

LOL (not at you) at this rule. Cut off the knife and throw it away and let them on with a potentially more dangerous weapon.
Ah, the collective brains of the government.

I have a "travel" once from one of our cruises, the cover comes off and goes into a hole to make the "handle" it sure looks like it could do a lot of damage to someone..try to take my wine and you will pay with your life :teeth:

I have had mixed success bringing cork screws through security. Just don't carry your nice expensive one. I have gone through several over the last 2 years. It seems every TSA agent has a different rule. If they confiscate I don't put up a hassle and just buy a new inexpensive one at my destination and carry that one till another TSA agent decides it is unsafe. I travel every week for work so I have more encounters with TSA in a year than most people have in a lifetime.

I haven't flown since 1991 so this is all new to me, the guidlines of packing and etc. The 3 lighters comment got me wondering...

hubby is a smoker, can he bring a lighter on his carry on or matches or none of this at all? What about in the checked bags?

well we just got back a few hours ago, the cork screw was no problem... funny my underwire bra gave them fits... I haven't been felt up like that in years ;)
also my flashlight and beleive it or not my shoes, (candies that only have a strap at the toe area, apparently it is screwed in with very long screws) gave them concerns... all in all though I am SO thankful for the hard working folks who put up with such greif at the airport....maybe next time I will just go bra less:eek: :hyper:

Last year, DH had his nail clippers confiscated from his carry on at JFK. I wasn't with him, but he said the screener simply told him that nail clippers must be in checked bags only and it musy be removed before he would be allowed to proceed to the gate area. She held out a little tub thing and he put the clippers in. He was told that there is a policy that the screener may not remove a banned item from the bag if the owner is present.

Nail clippers are allowed. BUT, if they have a file attachment, they can be confiscated.

There is a list at http://www.tsa.gov/interweb/assetlibrary/Permitted_Prohibited_12_18_2003.pdf

Lighters are allowed, only two. Not sure about matches. Read the list, it is, at least, amusing.

Thanks Gail! That list sure is entertaining!

*slaps forehead*

what ever will I do without my throwing stars, blasting caps and nunchakus!?! :rotfl:

I am not sure, LOL... I am having a tough time figuring out what to do without my handy dandy spray paint? There goes any hope of doing graffitti.
