Confused about banking points

I have a Use Year beginning Dec so my points expire at the end of November. I understand that I can bank my points from this year and that I must do so by the end of July if I wish to do so. If I go into the DVC website and I select the "Bank Vacation Points" option now (so I don't forget) - am I forced to wait until after December to use these points. I am positive that I won't be using them this year, I just want to understand the consequences.

Do I really lose these points if I don't bank them before the end of July? (and I am unable to use them before December? I would think they should automatically get banked.

Can you tell that I am new to this? My family is going on our first DVC trip this summer, but we are using incentive points.

I am equally as new. I booked my first trip yesterday! My Use Year is Feb and I used this year's Feb points for my trip on Feb 27/2010. To do so they banked my points, then made the reservation.

If you are within your 11month window for your next trip then go ahead and book it. BUt ask MS the question first to be certain, as I did. Good luck!

yep. banking and borrowing are irrevocable (when you do them, you can't undo them). you could borrow next year's pts to book this year but the banked pts are now only good for use in the next use year.

yes. you would really lose them. (DVC might give you a one-time break and allow you to bank them late...but they are not obligated to do so.)

I would think they should automatically get banked.

Thanks I never thought of that - worst case I could always borrow next years points. I think I will do the "irrevocable"
