Confused about AP renewal

We got our first APs on January 1, 2008, and are now trying to decide if it makes sense to renew, but have some questions:

1. Do they expire on 12/31/08 or 1/1/09?

2. If we renew them prior to when they expire, do we keep the same expiration date for next year, or does the clock start ticking when we first use the renewed passes? We don't plan to be back at WDW until at least next summer or fall (after our Christmas 2008 trip, that is).

3. What is the renewal cost for DVC members? I haven't been able to find it online.

4. If my daughter was a child when we bought her pass, but is now a 10 year old "adult", will it be a renewal, if she now needs an adult pass, or is it a new purchase?

If you purchased on 1/1/08 your pass will expire 1/1/09. The expiration date is on the back of the pass.

If you renew, the new expiration date will be exactly one year from the prior expiration date, so 1/1/2010.

I don't know for sure but I expect you could renew it but you would pay the adult renewal price.

They expire on the same day you activate them, so you actually get 1 year plus 1 day.

You keep the same expiration date. If you won't be back until next summer or fall then you will be paying for 6-9 months of unused time. Personally, since the difference is less than $50 per pass, I'd just buy a new pass on that summer/fall trip and have the clock start ticking at that point.

If your daughter is 10 she needs to pay the adult price, whether it is a renewal or a new pass.

And just so it's clear, passes are activated at the time of purchase. If you purchased an AP on 1/1/08 but didn't use it to enter a park until 1/5/08, it would expire on 1/1/09 not 1/5/09. In fact, even if you never used it at all it would still expire on 1/1/09. If you purchase a voucher, your AP expires one year plus one day from the date you exchange it for an AP.

Just to clarify...

• Passes that are purchased at one of the ticket booths or at a Guest Services location at WDW are activated as of the date of purchase.
• Passes purchased in advance by phone or through the WDW website (or any other place that I am now forgetting) are not activated at that time. Instead you receive a voucher that needs to be turned in once you are at WDW. When you turn in the voucher and actually get your pass the clock will start ticking.
