I asked the operator if I just kept calling back could somthing possibly open up, and she said no, that they have a convention there and when that happens they are not allowed to sell rooms cheaper than the convention rate. (But, obviously, I can't GET the convention rate, nor would she tell me what it is.)

The Swan/Dolphin are convention hotels and they do sell a lot of rooms to conventions. I'm afraid that's their priority. The good news is that hotels will realease blocked rooms to the public about 4-6 weeks before the convention starts. I would recommend that you keep your back-up (or reserve S/D through Expedia if you can cancel it with no penalty). Then, I would call the S/D a couple of times a week starting 6 weeks out to see if they have released the convention block.

Robinb and Madge (my mother's name! Not very many Madges out there!) thanks so much. I checked Expedia, and you're right, nice to know I can get rooms there cheaper that way-I guess I should claify, they did have rooms at the Swan for those dates at $305 a night, none at the Dolphin). And, if Robinb is correct, I'll wait a little closer and see if I can do that. Thanks so much, you've both relieved my mind a lot. Now, if AP for the Contemp doesn't come through, I'll be fine anyway-hopefully! Would just have to make a room change from Swan to Swan room, or from Dolphin to Swan room. Thank you!!!

I wanted to look at availability again for early September at various resorts. I looked at GF, Poly, BC, AKL, WL, BCV, BWV, OKW, and WLV, and almost without exception....all were available at ALL views, etc...They still have a TON of rooms left for less than a month away!

Keep your fingers crossed for the AP rates!;)

I did the same thing - I went through dates in September for Boardwalk and there are rooms available for every set of dates I put in. I think they are hoping if they wait long enough people will book at regular rate and just forget about the AP rates.

We are waiting for AP rates for 10/10. I am booked at AS Movies with the DC rate, but would move to AS Mu to get an AP rate. I would love to check if there are several rooms available as all the AS past 10/1. How do I do that?

Also try http://www.lodging.com for S/D availability. They buy wholesale blocks of rooms from the hotels and resell them.

Edited to add: Checked lodging.com out of curiousity for oct 14-18 and they have Swan for $276... so I guess they're beating Expedia by a little at least. :\

P.S. Frannn,

Please let me clarify...

I'm not advocating the use of the site I listed earlier to actually book rooms... I use it to check availability only.

I always call CRO to check rates, AP discounts, etc.

;)

Good Luck!

Wow! I just checked for 8/24-30(2 weeks away) and there is still availability for both standard & preferred at All Star MOVIES! I thought for sure movies would be full by now.

I just phoned CRO about an AP room rate at WL for Aug. 17-21 and they still had at least two standard rooms available at AP rates. No courtyard or wooded views for discount. The cost was something like $127 inc. tax per night. With less than a week until the 17th. still rooms available at a discount. What I'm getting at is, if discount room only rates are available for only a few days from now, then I would bet that WDW has many available rooms Sept. thru Dec. of this year.

I decided I couldn't take the heat and humidity and didn't make ressies.
