Conflicting DME information

I just got off the phone with Disney reservations - adding my flight information for DME (flying Southwest). The CM told me I would have to pick up my own luggage and transport it on the bus to POP. Hmmm...I went to the facts section and read him all the information on DME luggage transfer. He then told me that when he flew SW they would not get his luggage for him at the airport - he had to get it himself and bring it on the bus. I explained RAC (and "participating airline")- I think that's what he was thinking about and told him that SW was doing a trial at POP that started on June 1st.

At the end, he insisted that they were told to tell guests that they would not get the luggage transfer service either inbound or outbound. Am I losing my mind or was that CM wrong? This is my first SW flight to Disney, but I think they get the same service as other airlines right?

Outside of arriving after 10:00 PM, all luggage, regardless of the airline should be able to be delivered by DME.

Participating airline only impacts your ability to check in at the hotel when you're leaving. They should pick up your luggage regardless of the airline if it's tagged or you give your claim tickets to the welcome center at the airport.

The only exception is if you come in after 10pm, you need to claim your own luggage then take it to the welcome center and they'll take it from there.

4:30 - glad to know I'm not losing my mind! Thanks

I hope he checks his information again before telling someone who doesn't know how DME runs this song and dance.

I can say that I have flown SWA many times and every time my bags were delivered to the resort room by DME just as they are supposed to.

Unfortunately the CM is misinformed :(

Same here. We always fly SWA to Orlando and DME has always delivered our bags to the room. We were there less than two weeks ago and nothing had changed.

Your phone experience was just one more example of call center CMs who don't know what in blazes they're talking about. They know resort reservations, dining reservations and theme park ticket sales. Beyond that, I wouldn't trust a word they say ... they are terribly undertrained and misinformed about anything else.

Magical Express works the same way for all airlines except for early checking of baggage at your resort going home which is limited to a few airlines.

Getting your baggage at the carousel when arriving after 10 PM applies to all airlines.

If it's 20 minutes before bus time home and you haven't checked baggage at the resort yet, get out of that line and haul your baggage over to the bus platform. The baggage checking is not synchronized with the buses.

Unfortunetly, many Disney CMs are not giving out the correct information. And many people are believing (why wouldn't they??) and not tagging their bags, and then claiming them at baggage claim and dragging them to the bus with them. And that annoys me. Not only is it 'bad info', it means a longer trip for the guest, a harder trip to the DME counter because they are schlepping all their bags with them, it slows everyone else down because those bags now have to be unloaded at the resort, and then the bags have to be hauled into the resort and the Bell Services CMs will expect a tip for bringing the bags to the room (when no tipping should be needed for that when using DME properly).
I tell everyone I know that they can tag their checked bags, at home, and say goodbye to them at the airport. That they will see them in their resort room a few hours after checking in. That it doesn't matter what airline they are flying into Orlando on...every single domestic airline will take those bags and get them to the DME people to move to the appropriate resort.
