No one wants this to be more legit than me. Desperately in need of a nice vacation and on a budget. This thread was just sort of a double check for me but now I am feeling really unsure. Maybe I am being overparanoid.....
I see! For some reason, I was thinking you had something from DVC.
We all want it to be legit for you (and the owner), but none of us can know anything for certain. I love the DVC villas but, as I said, the mods are nice too. I just hate to see people stressing over a vacation that is supposed to be fun.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with doing that. I don't know what you had booked studio, etc. But Coronado Springs and French Quarter both now have queen beds and beautiful new rooms.
Free dining with kids can definitely save some money.
When you asked for references and did not get them, I would have walked away right then.
If you haven't paid yet, the owner may not have put your name on the reservation and it still may be in his/her name. You'd need that name to see if it is there. They may be waiting for their money before they change.
Have you tried to contact the owner of the points?
Was it a DVC confirmation that was forwarded to you? The link provided to check the reservation can be quirky and if the name you input isn't exactly correct for the lead person on the reservation it won't pull it up.
Well that worries me. Also when I asked for references the gentleman quit communicating. And, I think its kind of funny that I had several dvc members checking availability and the only person who had exactly what I wanted was this renter........
You haven't paid any money yet, so you've got nothing to lose. Give it a couple of days and keep trying to contact the owner you're working with.
I understand that this is really, really stressful for you. But owners who rent their points are just regular folks with families and jobs, and sometimes it takes a little while to respond. They could be sick, one of their kids could be sick, they could be in the middle of a job disaster and working 14 hour days.
This may be presumptuous, but it sounds to me that you're so worried about being ripped off that you're seeing every event in that light. He goes quiet for a day or two, you think it's because you asked for references. He may simply be busy with family stuff. Or he may be trying to round up some references for you, and will contact you when he has that put together.
It's possible that the reservation was made in the owner's name or that your name was misspelled. Everything has to match for the link to work.
Some owners only change the name after a deposit is received. You'll have to contact the owner and let him/her know that you cannot confirm the reservation. If he/she is legit, then I'm sure the issue will be easily resolved.
Personally I would communicate with the renter and find out exactly whose name the reservation is in currently. If they won't give you this information I would definitely back away.
You stated when you asked for references the renter stopped communicating. Was this after they sent you the reservation info??
Thanks for the link but when I tried it, it said that it didn't match their records. I put everything in correctly. Now I am really worried...does it have to close to check in/arrival time for this link to work????
When I rented points I was a nervous wreck. I had to learn to trust who I was renting from even though I didn't have the confirmation # right away. I would email the person you are renting from, explain your concerns- be open and honest- get a reference (see if you can get a reference from another dismember) and give him/her a few days to respond before cancelling. That would be my advice at least. When is your vacation for?
