Confirming No Possibility for Last Minute Booking?

Hello, as of now we will be moving my daughter to college in Florida mid-August.
We didn't know the dates until it was too late to book anything new --- but had planned (and would still like to) book a 2-3 night WDW stay on the way to college (2nd week of August).

I just wanted to confirm I've interpreted correctly that there is no possible route for us to purchase park tickets for August. Before I give up -- just wanted to make sure there wasn't some way to do this that I was missing.

Appreciate any thoughts.

You can’t now but a slim chance later.

Once they get all the current stuff caught up they will allow new reservations and new tickets.

Who knows when tho.

Keep an eye on here someone will post on the boards as changes occur.

You might check into a last minute DVC rental if willing to do a non-parks stay. But no guarantee that you can get tickets unless you already have APs.

Disney has suggested that new bookings and ticket sales may resume later this summer. No definitive date was given and there are no guarantees, but if you are willing to wait I doubt August will be at capacity. I think there is a chance, although your hands are tied currently.

I found this on Disney's site. Don't know exactly what it means. Is this for only guests coming in 2021 or anyone?

By June 28, all Guests will be able to purchase new Disney Resort hotel packages and theme park tickets and make their park reservations for arrivals starting in 2021 as our phased reopening continues. Guests will be able to view park availability online prior to purchasing their tickets. Please note that park reservations are limited in number and subject to availability. Availability can change until the reservation is finalized.

On that day, anyone can book a hotel stay & tickets for 2021. You do’t have to be staying at a Disney resort to book, it’s not a bounceback offer. It is just them opening booking for next year. You won’t be able to book any dates for this year then, only 2021.

I would wait and see. I know August feels like it’s soooo close, and in the usual way of Disney planning it’s practically last minute. But so much is happening right now, and a lot can change between now and August. I think there’s a good chance ticket sales will resume in July or early August.

packages opened today
I was also able to book a Jan room only (I'm AP)
FWIW resorts are limited

If you are just looking for a resort stay you could book a DVC rental. As for park tickets you probably won't have access to tickets. It sounds like 2020 tickets might go back on sale later in the summer. I wouldn't book a trip based on that. Why not look at Universal (I know the dark side). They seem to have been allowing purchase of tickets. If you haven't been it might be worth it as it is different as far as more intense rides but could still be a good time. You can still get tickets for UO on undercover tourist for a little savings compared to at the park. Costco sometimes offers good packages if you would stay for 4 days.

We have a July 20-23rd but had not bought tickets yet by the time they stopped sells, we have called and called but CM's have no clue if we will be able to get tickets or not. Pretty nerve racking to have a trip less than a month away and not know if we are going to be able to get in the parks or not. I don't understand why Disney is only focusing on the 2021 people when they have 6 months left of 2020 people to take care of...

cause they are trying to capture as much cash, money, dollars bills they can right now. cut their loss for 2020 and maximize cash sales for 2021. fill rooms and ticket sales. guaranteed the most netted money vs just tickets only cause once parks fill they can't sell rooms so fill rooms which need tickets get in parks.

It’s not that they are focusing on 2021 people, they just don’t know how many people want to return in 2020 yet. There are thousands upon thousands of valid park tickets floating around out there, and with limited capacity at reopening and for some unseen time, they can’t overcommit availability with selling new tickets.

Its like when airlines overbook a flight, expecting some not to show up or change plans. No one wants to be bumped, after after buying expensive tickets, and planning an expensive vacation.

I understand their strategy, but it seems a little absurd to leave people in limbo who are scheduled to visit within the next couple of months. Hopefully they'll provide an opportunity to buy tickets and book park days sooner than later. I get it for those booked in the fall, but July/August visitors should be taken care of ASAP (IMHO).

We have resort reservations for Aug 20-23 and no tickets. We weren't sure if MNSSHP would be a go and just figured we would get our park tickets when the party info was released. I chatted with a CM earlier and this was her reply "at this time new ticket sales are not available for 2020". I brought up the fact that we are arriving in less than 2 months and are not even sure we can visit a park and all the 2020 guests have fallen through the cracks - especially the July/August ones (like you pointed out). She couldn't even tell me if "later this summer" meant it would be past our check in date or not. This is very frustrating.

Exactly my point. I understand their situation, but people who hold a confirmed hotel reservation at LEAST in July & August should definitely be given the opportunity to purchase tickets ASAP or told they'll need to reschedule. Not saying anyone specifically wants to reschedule, but people have to buy airline tickets, make other arrangements, etc., so at least let them buy tickets or let them know the what situation will be. Surely by now they know the stats on this stuff.

Despite the occasional "resort only" stay, that's really a very, very small minority. I doubt very many people think Pop Century as a first choice for a relaxing resort only vacation. 🤷‍♂️

What they don't want to happen is a ton of people buying nonrefundable tickets only to find out they can't get a park pass. Park Passes are already selling out for AK and HS in July, and the number of sold out days/parks will rise once APs are allowed to book on 6/26. In other words; let the park passes for guests with existing tickets play out, and you'll see: Disney will announce ticket sales once it has a better sense of availability. I expect that will be phased too though--first, guests without tickets but a resort reservation, then guests with a resort reservation who want to modify to add days, then guests who want to renew an AP... etc. etc.

I will predict one thing: not everyone who wants to get tickets and park passes for 2020 is going to get them. They have to tread carefully here.

I have to agree with this. I understand most of us know our Disney and the wait and see method has served us all well time and time again, but Disney was very clear. They would deal with already sold tickets first. The resort reservation is ALMOST a separate issue. On the flip side of this, if you have had a package for August since last summer when you could book 2020 packages, and you've been on hold with support for three days trying to make your park reservations, and you come back to the boards only to find out that Disney has sold a brand new ticket to someone and they got to make reservations before you, that wouldn't be fair either.

Like another poster has already mentioned, if you definitely would like to book something, then I suggest booking at Universal instead. Right now, I think Disney is too much of an unknown to try and wait for a last minute trip. There are too many people holding hotel reservations without tickets right now and they would certainly get to buy tickets and book a park before they let anyone else book hotel package and reserve parks. Even if they open ticket sales, you may not get to stay onsite since all the hotels are opening different dates.
