**CONFIRMED** Rumor About the Resort Refillable Mugs!

I think the mugs can be used at all the resorts but the way I am reading it is that it is only good for the length of stay at the report you are registered in. Example:

Arrive on 9/1 checking out on 9/4 - All Star Movies -- you buy a mug. That mug while you can carry it and "visit" BoardWalk villa's and get a refill there is only good for the length of you stay till check out at midnight of 9/4

On 9/4 you check into POFQ to 9/9 - you would need to buy a new mug for the length of your stay in THAT hotel and use that mug to "visit" another hotel and get a drink there from 9/4 o 9/9

Disney's going bananas with RFID. I hope it still dispenses drink just as fast as the old system. I don't want to have wait for some 5 minute time-out to reset my chip if I get a mug full of flat pop and need to refill quickly.

No, if you have a split stay, the same mug can be used for the whole trip. If you stay somewhere off property for even just one night in between Disney resorts, you would have to purchase a new mug for the second part of your stay.

Ugh, I would actually hate if they brought this into the parks and stopped including drinks with QS. I carry, sunscreen, autograph books, sweatshirts, ponchos, sharpies, etc, etc. I can't imagine hauling four giant mugs too.

I wonder if you'll still be able to get iced water without purchasing an RFID mug? :confused3

Hey! Does this mean they'll be a new cup design????

We can hope. The article on Orlando Theme Park News shows mug art with a new logo on top of the current pool scene design, so we'll see.

In the next 10 days?
The reports are saying this will be implemented at the All Star resorts in July, so no, unlikely it will be at AoA in the next 10 days.

I have no doubt water will still be available in some way without purchasing a mug, just as it is now.

Does anyone know how much a drink is at the food courts if you aren't purchasing a reusable mug? Specifically, POR? We will be there for 13 nights but only usually eat at the food court a few times. Just trying to figure out if it is worth the cost or not. $17.99 times 5 of us is a lot of money for drinks. Wondering what the "break even" point is.

I believe it is something like $2.79 per drink. So, 1 drink a night would be $36.27 per person.

I fill my mug once in the morning with breakfast and once at night after I get back to the room. If I take a break during the day or get back for an early night, I will refill at least once more. Without the mug I would be spending between $5.58 and $8.37 per day on drinks. On a normal trip for me, that would be $58.59 on the high end (3 refills a day).

:thumbsup2:idea:
Here ye, here ye, that's what I think too! We just came back from a 5 day stay at Pop Century and it was RARE to see someone refilling the new resort cups! Nearly everyone had the old school ones from last year and as far back as 2006. That's the last one I remember. Not one CM said anything to any of those people using the old mugs.

I think it more logical too, just to charge people a flat price for mug USAGE, not just for the "new" mug. I honestly don't know what soda prices must cost Disney these days, or coffee, or tea. We don't drink soda, and I only buy them just to get iced tea or coffee in them. Of course, I don't know how they would manage to regulate old mug usage. :confused3

I buy one mug each time we go and that's it. I just try to focus on me and my own. :)
Stand by for the final thing. They call it buying a mug, but the way it works, it is a purchase for drink dispenser access AKA a KEY. With Magic+ you will already have a Key. But a mug is still good to have. Those without the mouse handcuff can buy a key with a FREE mug attached.

That is the opposite of how I understand what I am reading I thought it would be valid for the time you bought regardless of check out dates

By the way, this was posted on another forum...regardless of the price of soda, this has to cost Disney money...

This made me chuckle. I've never seen it that bad. I've seen old mugs, a Chick-fil-A cup, soda bottle.

Thanks! So, the break even point is 6 or 7 uses. Not sure it's worth it for us since we only eat there 3 or 4 times during our stay. DH will sometimes take the walk to refill in the morning for himself, but maybe we'll just get extra soda for the room instead.

We buy the mugs, but we lose money on them every year. We drive, so we have plenty of drinks in the room, and we don't make runs to the drink bar with cool drinks so close at hand.

For 5 people it would save you money to get drinks delivered to your room and skip the mugs. The mugs are for convenience only now that all rooms have refrigerators.

I think they should just sell drink Jibbitz to be worn on the Magic Bands entitling the wearer to free drinks anywhere on Disney property.

A cute little cartoony cup with a Mickey face and a straw sticking out - it would be so much easier to not have to worry about a mug!! :thumbsup2

Agreed, or just include it with the data stored on the RFID. Most would be happy to pay more if it included drinks while in parks.
