Confirmed New Security measures coming to Disney Parks

Disney are just subcontracting this out to a security company. CSC is I believe the name that is being bandied about.
No doubt they will be working closely with Disney on what to look for. Many of Disney World's annual visitors are from other countries. They are going to make every effort not to rock the boat with foreigners. They'll probably try to rock all boats equally. Lol

You're giving them a lot more credit than I do.

Based on what I've seen from these sort of subcontracted security services you will have a bunch of low paid people who have had the bare minimum training and are just following the script they've been given. I don't expect much if anything in the way of cultural sensitivity.

Probably so. I pretty much give everyone the benefit of the doubt until I see a reason not to. My sister in law's family will be headed there over Christmas, so I'm looking forward to hearing how everything went from someone I know and trust. Lol

I went to the Star Wars Opening Night Event last night, and they had metal detectors at both the AMC and at Hollywood Studios. CSC were the people running the process. Overall, I think it went very smoothly. If anything, the security folks were weirdly polite. It was like, "Do you mind if I search your bag?" Uhh... no, go right ahead.

Also, I set off both metal detectors. Followed up with a simple wand and was on my way.

Overall, it seemed like a pretty quick and painless process.

CSC yellow shirts are hard to miss. Disney could have required that they wear other shirts.

I think a better way of putting it is guests won't care about the difference. If there is a bad experience, they are going to be upset at Disney and not CSC. Disney hired them so they are, in some folks eyes, ultimately responsible for the experience they provide.

I was not aware that CSC was wearing yellow shirts until disneynutz pointed it out. I then googled a photo and their trashy yellow rent-a-security look is VERY jarring with the backdrop of the MK. That leads me to believe that Disney just threw this new "security" plan in place without their customary forethought on how new things mesh with existing environments.

I think you're right. Guests won't care about the differences in the two companies. I do believe that Disney hired them and they are ultimately responsible for their behavior.

FTR, I was peeved at the existing security theater. If I get pulled for special screening I will be more than peeved.

There's two problem with adding extra security steps like metal detectors.

1. It forces larger crowds and pedestrian backups into completely unsecured areas. A terrorist could do far more damage in an airport TSA security line then he or she could ever do inside the terminal.

2. It makes the security guards lax and too trusting of technology instead of their own instincts. Is the non-English speaking young man arriving alone while wearing a winter coat in August a security threat? Yes... Is my belt buckle a security threat? No... I deal with these metal detectors at an NFL stadium 10 weeks a year. I forget I have my pocket knife about half the time and always go right through. I've even forgotten it at the airport and had it in my carry-on a handful of times.

I don't know what the right answer is. I'm fairly certain Disney managed to keep out assault weapons without metal detectors. Stop trusting technology and look out for yourselves.

Hopefully Disney is just using CSC until they can beef up their own ranks and take over. It's another layer of complexity bringing in an outside contractor, although it does give them a certain amount of deniability if something happens due to CSC failing. "It wasn't us, it was them." Granted, they can't completely avoid responsibility as they chose to use CSC.

Disney hired the car valets and they are NOT responsible for their behavior or damages to your car.

Would you then be okay with just doing away with airport screenings? Just let anyone buy a ticket and walk on a plane unchecked?

Security Theater, for $85 the general public can skip most of the screening procedures at most airports, and paying someone for inside help is a real possibility at any airport or Disney.
