I am at WDW and heard about a proposed new three hours after park closing option for non resort guests. Apparently it is $149. Not sure if it has been confirmed or not but thought I'd share. #blameshanghai

There is a whole thread about this now: http://www.disboards.com/threads/new-mk-paid-after-hours-event-announced.3494480/#post-55395645

Seems like they have a lot of details as far as dates, etc. but not much beyond that ... though there it seems like this will replace all regular EMH, even for onsite guests.

I am struggling to see how this is reasonable for simply 3 hours in the park - now, if they add some unique experiences and include some food, etc. (so, basically the equivalent of a Halloween or Christmas party) then maybe there is something there ... so devil will be in the details I think

This is interesting to me. Not sure how it would be worth it for my family?

I like the hashtag but it's more than just Shanghai. Cost overruns on MyMagic+ and other imagineering projects are also to blame. Shanghai is the main reason though.

Except those events are under $100 aren't they? and grant you access from 4pm.
An extra $50 per hour to access the parks late at night per person?
Surely staying on site to get access to EMH would be more economical for say, a family of 4?

What's crazy is that I've encountered a few people that would jump at the chance to do this. I went as far as quoting the price of a standard price 7-day park hopper with water park add on and then comparing it to the supposed cost of 3 measly hours in MK with supposedly limited attractions, etc. and they still thought it sounded incredible. Rare characters the said and no lines. Hmmmm...I guess my take home pay isn't enough for me to see how an additional $150 pp for three evening hours is amazing...especially when it sounds like a way for them to test eliminating EMH or later hours in MK.

I wouldn't pay it but I am sure there are people out there who absolutely would pay that price. Than again I would rather walk than pay the extra $15.00 bucks to park at the front.

I have to say, I mentioned this to my wife, who is not one to throw around money, and she said she actually could see this being worth it if traveling during the super peak times (Christmas week, etc.) and assuming they really do limit the number of people.

If you could literally walk onto any ride you want and meet any character you want and get done in 3 hours more than you would with the crowds during the rest of the day there is some value there

I question how much they really will limit it (maybe at first they will but then I bet they expand, and expand it) .... and that is the problem a lot of people were having with the parties - they used to be a great opportunity to hit up characters (including rare ones) and ride attractions with minimal wait - but now they have gotten so popular you can't do that

If that is true - that they really limit the number of tickets and they do have some unique experiences (rare characters, special parades and/or fireworks, etc.) and you really can get onto all the rides you want with no wait, I can see people finding a value in that and doing it .... but no details about that have come out and I didn't see anything confirm rare characters or anything, so hard to tell what the value really is or isn't

Let's start and end this right here and right now. I am putting my foot down on Disney for this one.

1. EMH is one of the fundamental "perks" you get for staying on property. Sorry but if you want that perk stay on property.
2. NO ONE I repeat NO ONE should pay Disney this amount of money for this "experience". If people do pay Disney will continue to cut back what they offer you as part of your stay and continue to nickle and dime you. It is time this ends. All of this nonsense is so Iger can stand up at the board meetings and to shareholders and say look we "made profit" this quarter.
3. See the trend with this and other proposed cuts/extra charges: WiFi, Magical Express, etc. When will it end?

PS: Even in Pittsburgh I can feel a Pete rant coming today at 1.

Agree with all, and I'll say again - as a stockholder of long standing - if this is being done for me, I don't need to see a profit that badly. Because speaking now as a guest (and seeing other guests get a less-than-spectacular experience - even if they don't KNOW what they're missing, I do, and it bothers me) -I agree with you - it needs to end, and ENOUGH ALREADY!!!! (And for the zillionth time - I haven't been in over 3 years partly because of the rising costs and crowds, and falling happiness levels, and don't know when my next trip will be, so I'm NOT "one of those people" who complain and go anyway!!!) And again and again and again, it all makes me very, very sad. :(

this seems to be just too much for 3 hrs, I need to read up more on exactly what this entails

That does sound very expensive...to the point that unless you're by yourself (and probably even if you are), it would make sense to get a Disney room (or campsite) for just that night
