has anyone made thier confiramtion? was it fun? i am supposed to make mine this year but dont know........i have a 6 freaking hour retreat tomorrow,( :guilty: ) that i am soooooooo looking forward too!( :sad2: ) i dont know i f i can even make it though because i have volleyball practice on the night of the ceremony and CAN'T miss practice because im on the national team and at that time, well have to prepare for nationals! :guilty: so what do i do? if i miss practice, im benched! :guilty:

I made mine and yeah, the retreat sucked. We were supposed to do it with our sponsors but she was already doing me a huge favor so there was no way I was making her spend 8 hours with me. I don't know about your situation but we had to take religious classes every year from first grade til our confermation (9th grade, earlier than most places). If we didn't make it then we'd have to take more and more until we did which meant more early mornings, more church write ups, more service projects, etc.

I'd talk to your coach first and foremost. It's not like it's a game. Depending on the time you can make it to both. But I'm thinking at this point in the confermation process, it'd be a pain in the @ss to not finish it.

I made my confirmation a couple years ago. We had to go on a one day retreat (12 hour) and I swear, if I did get such a good night sleep the night before, I would have fallen asleep. I mean, I'm not anit-church or anything...but I'm too anxious to sit through two masses in a row and too anxious to listen to sermon after sermon all day. We got one small ham and cheese sandwich and that was supposed to give us energy to make it through the rest of the day! Oh man...was that one LONG day! lol.

We also had to go to this Youth Day celebration thing. We had to stand up and sing church music all day...though it was supposed to be "hip" church music lol. It was supposed to appeal to teens. I'm sorry...but I thought it was funny. Again, I am all for the church and for my religion, but we had to stand and shout "Yes Lord! Yes Lord! Yes yes yes Lord!" While they had the drums playing and such and they wanted us to dance and everything. I don't mean to sound bad, I really don't lol...I know it was all meant well and I feel guilty for saying this, but it was funny! lol.

For our confirmation, we had to wear redish-brown gowns and I loved the sleaves!! They were long and REALLY wide at the opening. It looked like those pictures of angels with the long ended sleaves. I had fun in it. Very Holy-like fun. lol. But seriously, I respected everything and the entire sacrament. heh. The homily was good and the Monsignor had a good sense of humor (we couldn't get the Bishop there).

I don't know about your situation but we had to take religious classes every year from first grade til our confermation (9th grade, earlier than most places). for first communion, we needed to take first and second grade classes and for confirmation we need seventh and eigthth...we make our confirmation here as an 8th grader.

Depending on the time you can make it to both. nope...practice @ 6:30-9:30 and confirmation @ 7-9.

But I'm thinking at this point in the confermation process, it'd be a pain in the @ss to not finish it. ur tellin me!

Yeah, with our sponsors we were supposed to do a 6 hour service project (We made it up), spend "quality time" together and talk about God (we went to a Bills vs. Jets football game), then the retreat which I had my mom go with me to cuz I wasn't making her go. My sponsor was my mom's cousin Sarah who was 20 at the time. She had a life, classes, etc. and she was already doing me a huge favor by just doing it and going to the rehersal and the actual ceremony. I've spent my whole life around my extended family, including her...we've had enough quality time in the past! I thought, and still do think, that it's rediculous to be asked to do this much and asking someone else who is doing a favor for you in the first place, to do this much. Wow, that was a long minor vent. Good luck deciding...in both situations!

I got confirmed just a week and a half ago. My retreat was absolutely horrible. I screwed up confession, to the monseinor, I might add. I seriously could not breathe correctly, and him reassuring me did not help. Everything we did was pointless, besides confession. Lunch wasn't bad. We had pizza. But, everyone cut me and my only 2 friends there. And we were the only ones to say "thank you" to the volunteers. Most of the kids were very rude. It was probably the worst 5, yes, just five, hours of my life.

As for your volleyball practices, do you think the coach would understand that you're getting confirmed? I mean, seriously, people do have faith and sacraments. If you're missing only one practice, will you be killed?

Technically, your coach should not be able to punish you for missing practice due to a religious obligation.

technically, he can. i signed a contract. but i dont know about the religious part of it..........you do have a good point. and the national level is so extreme! for the older levels, if graduation or prom interfers with volleyball, you are to go to volleyball; but they try to work around it. :confused3

:sad2: what did i get myself into with this volleyball stuff?!? :sad2:

did you have a lawyer check out the contract first? Do you have a copy of it? If it covered religious obligations, and you signed it, you're pretty much out of luck.

I got confirmed.. wow.. 6 years ago ! My church only has Confirmation every 3 years so the 6th, 7th, and 8th year CCD students get confirmed all at once - I got confirmed in 6th year.

I really don't remember much about my retreat.. I remember more from my First Communion retreat than my Confirmation one...

I really love my confirmation name.. My first/middle name is Marissa Grace and I have two confirmation names(patron saint/sponsor) Maria Christine... I love the dress I wore, as well... and since my sister was 8th year CCD and we both got confirmed together we got professional pictures done afterwards :)

Anyway - I hope it all works out for you with your schedule! :grouphug:

wow....your on a national volleyball team thats pretty darn good!! I made my confirmation about 2 years ago....As for your situation, first off when is your confirmation? I would say first and foremost talk to your coach about it and how its a religous sacrament and what would happen if you missed out? Based on his/her response then talk to the person in charge of your confirmation...not necessarily the preist but like someone in charge and see there take. What do your parents think about it, or they undecided as well? I understand nationals is a big thing, but you don't wanna not finish confirmation [ maybe there is an alternative date for those who couldnt make it, I know there was at my church I believe anyways... ] hope this helps! have fun at your retreat....they are "semi" boring lol mine was only like 4 hours though, not too bad! lol.

Hmmm. Well, I got confirmed last June, I was 14. I'm Protestant, so it really wasn't a big deal at all. I had my parents, my brother, my grandma, and one friend come. There was no after party (although it would have been nice :) ) And to your question, was it fun...well, I guess. I really didn't like the people in my confirmation class, and I'm not extremely religious, but it felt cool. I liked it.

well, this is kinda bad, but my mom could care less. :confused3 i mean yeah she believes in god and all but she finds this to be, useless.my dad wants me to though because he made his and he thinks itll be good for me. but my grandma though...dont get me started. she thinks we should go to mass every sunday...we dont. she thinks we should go to confession...we dont. she thinks we should throw a big party...we arent. now if she had her way, it would be comfirmation. i mean i would like to make my confirmation but if it interfers with something else that is important, i dunno what i am going to do. we are trying to see when other churches in the area make their confirmation so i could go with them but 2 churches close by us are making their confirmation with us. :confused3 oh well, we'll see what happens. :guilty:

i went to the retreat and it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be. yeah there were some very boring parts but when we got to socialize, that was fun! we got a snack about 3. then we had mass at 5:30-6:45, and they fed us after and then we left. we had HUGE subs, a bag of chips, a cookie, and a drink. yum! we also had "Catholic Aerobics". if you dont know what these are, in the catholic church, during mass, we sit, stand, sit, stand, sit, stand, sit, stand, sit, stand, sit, oh well you get it. and let me tell you, that is some good excersise!(sp?).

i was sooooo happy because i met up with some of my friends form kindergarten! it was soooooo cool! i also saw this one guy who was in my first grade class and when i saw him, i looked like this:  OMG! he is sooooooooo cute! :lovestruc he looked like a dork in first grade but now, :upsidedow :faint: :hyper: :ssst: he is gorgeous! anyways.........i had fun meeting up with my friends! :)
