Confirmation Letters through Website

Just wondering....would anyone object if DVC had decided to provide the confirmation letters for bookings through the website. So, essentially, once you are booked, you can just check the member only website, log in and view your confirmation letter. That way, you can choose to print it now or later, depending if you are planning to make changes. So once changes are done, the confirmation letter will be update, so there isn't many different ones.

And in this way, DVC/Members can save on paper and stamps.

Imagine the savings!:)

What do you think?

By the way, I think MS would still provide the option to send members these letters. So each time a booking is complete, they will ask whether you want a hard copy sent to you. If not, it's always available at the website. I think many may like the idea. A Win Win for everyone, IMO.;)

I think it's a great idea.

(Maybe they can add it now so it'll be ready when we get online booking. ;) ) Ok, I can still hope, can't I?

They don't even need to update the webste, the confirmation should already be showing in the area that shows point usage. Just print that screen. The problem is, there are still a lot of folks without any internet access, whether because of location or by choice.

I wouldn't have a problem if folks had to request a printed confirmation, they could just have a check box in our member profile with our preference.

Given the problems some people have had logging into the website, I would prefer they send me the confirmation letter via email with the option to print it again later (if needed) by logging on to the website. Just today I was on the member's website and several of the links I clicked on didn't work! The website is just too unreliable to have that be the only way I can get an electronic confirmation. It should be easy enough for their booking system to send an email once my trip is booked.

You'd think wouldn't you? Every trip I have booked the CM has stated that he/she would send an email with the confirmations but I have yet to get even one. I do print out the information from the members website when I can get in but lately it seems harder and harder to do that.

I agree with LisaS !!! There seems to always be problems with the website. I can always count on getting my paper ressie in the mail though:thumbsup2

Well dont say I am a "nay" sayer but I have had LOTS of issues with mailing of confirmations from not mailing to sending to the wrong zipcode! And yes my inforamtion is correct in the system. I had to call 4 times last year to get a paper confirmation. FWIW I like all 3 mail, email and print via website.:thumbsup2

I make payments online towards my loan principal. The site says they will email me a confirmation. I have never got an email yet.:confused3

If I make changes and I don't receive a confirmation letter, I usually just print the vacation details list and the confirmation number and dates are there. However, I think members would like something similar to the current ones which have their requests and DDP noted on their reservation as a way to confirm what they have requested. I, myself, have often gone back to that section to confirm that I have added the DDP plan (since sometimes I couldn't add at booking time).

I like the idea that they could provide a preference on the profile. However, I believe asking them at the end of the booking is best to ensure all members' preference is known.

I was just thinking about the member website problems. I think the email confirmation would help in that case. But they could also call in and request one (maybe through automated phone lines).

I'm sure they'll be a good number of members who will still ask for the hard copy to be send, but those who regularly have access to the members only website, may opt out and print it out themselves. I think many may consider it since we are all trying to go "green".;)

And that's all I'm saying. Just give us the option. I think that there is enough members who will choose the email or website that MS will save money. And of course in the end we will save on dues. And also help the environment.:)

My other reason for preferring email over printing it from the member's website is because it's easier. I always have email open so as soon as the confirmation email arrived, I would print a copy for my travel folder and then efile the message in my email folder for that particular trip. Logging into the member's website is an extra step (and a slooooow one at that). I like the idea of being able to print another copy from the website if I can't find the email copy, but just prefer having it emailed to me rather than for me to have to log in to a slow and unreliable website.

I agree that paper copies would still need to be offered to those who prefer them.

....now, how do we get them to do this... oh, maybe we can have an "overwhelming" number of members suggest it! ;) :lmao:

Frankly, it's just very old fashioned to mail out hotel confirmations these days. Except for Disney, I can't really think of any I've dealt with that actually mail one. It's always either get an email or was just provided the confirmation number over the phone.

WDTC emails confirmations nowadays so I see no reason DVC shouldn't do the same. I'm new to DVC and was just shocked when I was told I should expect my confirmation in "2 weeks". For my developer points reservation change this week (cancel one and rebook elsewhere), they told me..
"Please allow 7-10 days for this cancellation/reservation to be processed. You may expect an email confirmation to the requested address in approximately 2 weeks."

Say what?

The millions of dollars Disney must spend on IT a year and this is where they are at?
:confused3

Oh, and don't even get me started on the fact that the room charge cards at the Disneyland Resorts are just pieces of paper!
:scared1:

Agree with you on this ... at least have it as an option.

[ ] Check Here to Receive Booking Confirmations via Email (Hard Copy will not be mailed).

Then you can either print the email or print from the member's website and we wouldn't get a bunch of paper we don't necessarily want.

As I understand it, Developers Points are 'special', which is why confirmations take a little longer to go out. I believe there is a manual process in place for allocating those points.

I agree. I have a trip planned for Sept and have gotten a total of 9 confirmation letters. They sent a letter each time one of our waitlist dates came through. Now I am so confused. So I am throwing them all out and just printing off what was showing on my members page now that all the waitlist have come through.
What a waste of paper and postage.

It would be great if we can all call/email/write in to let them know our concerns. I think this helps us all.
