Confirmation Gift for a boy

My 8th grade DS is being Confirmed in a few weeks and I am stumped as to what to get him for a gift to commemorate the event. It doesn't necessarily have to be religious but I would like it to be meaningful. Last year when my dh was a sponsor for another boy, he got him a barnes and noble gift card because the boy loved to read. A watch would have been a nice gift, but we got our ds one for Christmas.

Any good ideas? I think that girls are a lot easier to buy for.

Boys are definitely harder than girls~ we gave my DS a nice watch, but you already have that covered.
My DD is making her confirmation this year and we are giving her a special piece of jewelry.
Did you ask your DS if there is something special that he wants? A nice camera or other electronic gadget? Maybe it's not tangible, but a special night out to a dinner and a show or weekend away somewhere?

We also take a lot of photos for special occasions and make either a scrapbook or a photobook (like Snapfish) of the event.

Cold hard cash!

My son had his last Nov and 99% of the family gave him cash. Opened a nice bank account with almost $1k in it for him. He puts his b-day money in that also and is great to see him saving some money.

What about a personalized bible? That's what I got my youngest brother for his first communion. Neither my middle brother or I got confirmed out of personal choice, but it looks like my youngest brother will when the time comes.. so he'll probably be getting an antique rosary or something like that for that occasion from DH and I when the time comes.

I've gotten my boys stock from www.oneshare.com and they love it! DS21 got Nike and DS17 got Under Armour - lots of ideas to fit with different personalities - even Disney! You get the actual stock certificate and I've had them come already framed with an engraved plaque on it with a message and date of confirmation. They look great on the wall and it is actually one share of that company's stock.

With all the bells and whistles I think it comes to around $130 depending on the price of the particular stock you're purchasing. It's a gift that lasts forever! I hate to admit it, but a religious gift would sit on the shelf pretty much unused.
