Confessions of a Disboard Dropout...New chapter 3/14

Yay's Ponzi's returned! Will respond to everyone as soon as I get a chance.

That's funny that you drive with the steering wheel up like a bus driver, according to Mr. Squid. Maybe Mr. Squid is just jealous of your ability to actually fit behind the wheel with it up like that. :drive:

I don’t really have my steering wheel up that high. I just like to have an unobstructed view of the dashboard.

I think Monkston's diet of junk sounds perfectly vacationy. And, I let Maddie eat Poptarts all the time-I'd rather start fighting after I've had a chance to wake up.

I missed the cronut. :headache: I was so focused on the bacon cupcake that I forgot all about it.

I was always super self-conscious about my own crying baby, but others just don't seem to be. I don't get it. Though I spent the day at the zoo yesterday so I could go on and on about the ways that people could be more conscientious to those around them.

Can't wait to hear more!

How was the bacon cupcake?

now do you really want me to answer what the tip is on free? :rotfl:

probably not, but as a bartender and a server, it's my duty! when we had karaoke at the bar where I used to work, there was a couple who always came. didn't even drink soda. had fun singing for free, free water, and never tipped .

It took me just as much time and effort to to put ice in a glass, fill it with water put in a straw, and hand it to them than to pour a beer. after a couple times, we decided the only water we had on karaoke night was bottled for sale. they stopped coming. more seats and singing slots for others!

I actually didn't tip the guy every time I wanted my mug filled. yes if I had nebo's too. but just like at a wedding (where the drinks are free) your best bet is to tip the first time, nicely. he will take good care of you the rest of the time.
hey, you asked" what do you tip on free? " tee hee

We actually did tip him well when we bought drinks to make up for it. What would you leave to fill up mugs? $1?

I so agree with you about the pool I like the luna pool much better than storm a long bay. I like the look sa an expansive pool. and the sand was hard to walk on. there wasn't much "swimming " room. and you have to cross the promenade in you wet suit, feeling like a beached whale passing the ladies and gents dressed for dinner walking pass. and the slide is one of those with the metal slats that hurts your back every couple feet.

If I had little kids, I would be afraid of losing them. and while the sep. pool with the sand to play in is nice, if your kids are dif. ages, you might have to split up.
that being said, If we had stayed there when the boys were 10 and 13, they would have LOVED! it.

Yes, that’s kind of why I think we may want to try it again next year.

speaking of quiet.... how rude of that lady. and then to top off her rudeness by blocking your view! people don't take out their crying or misbehaving babies or children at restaurants anymore either... or movies!!!!!

Ugh. There are so many rude people at the movies. What about the ones who text during the movie so you’re distracted by the light? Or the ones who sit right next to you when there are plenty of seats elsewhere?

I have not had a cronut yet!!! it looks scrumptious!!!!

You must try one!

Taking care of all the "business" involved in getting all your ducks in a row at the start of a WDW stay can be so time consuming! :upsidedow Hmmm, I have yet to try a cronut - might need to do that. I don't know why some people are so inconsiderate. It sometimes seems like everyone in the world thinks they are the only ones around. :(

Yes! You must try the cronut. I sound like a PR person for the cronut industry…if there is a cronut industry…

What? Your toes?
Sure. I'll play along.
Very pretty.

Pre-vacation pedicure. They’ll probably look pretty battered by the end of the week.

I would never stoop so low...

:rolleyes1:

Besides. Just rinse out your bathing suit once in a while to avoid the dreaded sandy bottom.

I knew you wouldn’t be able to resist!

But what could be more intimate than a sandy bottom????

Hmmmm….

Then again, maybe he was grumpy because he had a sandy bottom.

You’re getting a lot of mileage out of that.

Which is worse? A smart butt? Or a sandy butt?

See?

No lie.
My DW went to a dermatologist and apologized for not having a tan.
The dermatologist just stared at her.

That’s funny. I wonder if dermatologists’ offices are busier in January so people can get screenings when they’re not tan to avoid the lectures.

He kept it on a separate lounger? In a bag? Scattered across the pool deck?

It was more like a furry vest.

oooohhhh. The coveted grass view!
Second only to the splendid parking lot view or possibly the amazing back-of-the-next-building view!

Better than the view we had of the buses pulling up at Kidani a couple years ago. Do you know that I was staying at AKL and didn’t have one Zebra Dome?

::yes::
Did she come up with the sunglasses shot on her own?
If she did, colour me impressed.

Yes, I can’t believe the photos she takes with her phone.

No wonder Disney tickets are so expensive.

LOL

Of course.
Hey! I just thought of something!!!
This is an amazing idea!
I'm almost thinking of not posting it here...
Oh, what the heck. It's so amazing, so revolutionary, but maybe somebody at Disney will see this and the benefits of my idea are so great that I'm giving it away!

Instead of having everyone wear magic bands....
Just let them buy a ticket to get in!!!!
You won't have to swipe your band all the time and be frustrated at it all the time!
You just show your ticket to whoever's at the entrance and that's it!
You're in!

Much easier to get us to part with our money with the bands.

Haven't had one yet.
It was on my to do list for Chicago... but then I forgot.

Maybe it will surpass the Zebra Dome!

Lucky Mr. Squid!

LOL

I'm sorry. Who finds this amusing?

Hmmm…. How did this guy get in my story?

Or you sneak in...

Or sashay…

Two things.
1. I don't know anyone who uses the expression "Oh Magoo!".
But I get it. And I think it's funny.

Showing my age I guess…
2. It sure was nice of the waiter to leave the tip. Saves you money.

Sloppy writing and Word didn’t alert me!

At which point, Mr. Squid discovers that Laura also punches like a bus driver.

Oh he knows that already.

Thanks for the chapter! :goodvibes

Thanks Ponzi! Love your comments!

Ok. I know I haven't posted much, but I have been keeping up.

You have Lady H and I craving cronuts and Croque Glace. I'm taking notes of these new treats we must try.

Yes, I realize I’ve fed my child nothing but junk today. Let’s tally.

Pop-tart for breakfast.
Cheez-its on the plane.
Mozzarella sticks for lunch.
Doritos on the balcony.
Cronut at Refreshment Port.
And now Croque Glace in France.

Junk Food

I'm a DISboards lurker. I've read your trip report and never commented.
I'm also an addict. Most of my Saturday mornings disappear without me noticing because I am devouring someone's trip report and wishing I was in WDW.

I'll try to do better about commenting and one day may work up the nerve to post a trip report. In the meantime I'll continue to "stalk" my enablers through their trip reports. Looking forward to the next installment.

Hey there Tour Guide Mike!

I am actually really excited to hear that big changes are coming to DHS. It is probably our least favorite of the parks right now. Sure. we like TOT and RnRC, (and TSM - but who can stand those lines!) but the park could use a few more good attractions to make it worth the day.

Any chance you can nudge Aunt Laura to come back a continue her report; let her know that her loyal followers all miss her. She has to keep going - she can't be a dropout twice! Maybe if she says 5 "Our Walters" and 5 "Hail Mickeys" she can come back to the confessional. ;)

Aunt Laura74 says that she will try to update on Friday, and she apologizes to Montague and Ponzi for being a slacker.

I'm so sorry I've been neglectful. I really have been busy (work has been making me work, as Ponzi would say) and Mr. Squid has been busy tying up the good computer. I need a keyboard for my iPad.

TGM has shamed me but good. I'll put up an update on Friday or Saturday. Luckily, I took extensive notes since I'm writing about a trip that took place 5 months ago! I think it will be easier to get motivated to visit here since we just booked our next trip for April 18-26. Anyone else going then? Crowd calendar says 5 that week but I think they're lying. We couldn't get a full week at one resort and we have 5 different reservations. I hope our wait lists come through or we will be packing up every morning!

Hope everyone is doing well. I'm behind on not just my report, but everyone's. Will have to do some reading too!

Don't feel too bad. Lady H and I started a TR on a trip we took last year with Smidgy and Nebo. We're only half way through and not even close to finishing. Work has us busy as well. One of these days/years we'll both finish. :rotfl:

No more excuses! Get to work!
(On the TR, I mean. Not that other stuff that pays the bills.)

TGM has shamed me but good.

Attaboy.

I'll put up an update on Friday or Saturday.

Promise? Pinky promise?

Hope everyone is doing well. I'm behind on not just my report, but everyone's. Will have to do some reading too!

Me too... Behind on my reading that is.

YEARS????? :faint:

We wake to another perfect sunny day. Monkston and I decide to walk over to Epcot and walk around before everyone arrives. It’s a little before 9 and they aren’t due to land until after 10.

“This is so nice, being able to walk to Epcot, isn’t it? And it’s so peaceful on the boardwalk .”

What’s not so peaceful is the bakery. I think every Boardwalk guest is fueling up in there.

“We don’t need some mediocre boardwalk pastry. They don’t even have cinnamon rolls anymore. Let’s dine in France! Oui?”

We make the short walk to France and see that all the guests at the Beach Club are standing in line here. We decide to wait along with them though since we…I mean I… am hungry.

“What do you want, Monkston?”
“I’m not hungry.”
“How could you not be hungry? You don’t want a pastry?”
“No.”
“How about half a pastry? We’ll split one.”
“Maybe.”

None of these delicacies look nearly as good to me as yesterday’s (Yesterday? Feels like 5 months ago. Weird.) cronut. Although I will admit that the atmosphere here in faux Paris is decidedly nicer than that of the Refreshment Port.

“What should we get? Palmier?”
“Huh?”
“That thing that looks like an elephant ear.”
“No.”
“Brioche?”
“Huh?”
“That thing we had last night but without the ice cream.”
“No.”
“Croissant?”
“No.”
“Chocolate croissant?”
“Yes!”
“Chocolat Chaud?”
“Huh?”
“Hot chocolate.”
“Oh, ok.”

We grab a lovely table next to the trash cans. I’m a bit disappointed in the coffee. I thought maybe they would excel at coffee brewing in faux Paris.

Confession #15: I’m a coffee snob.

The unhungry one eats most of the croissant. It was good but does not beat the mighty cronut.

We get texts from the airport.

Yikes! We had trouble with this when we were planning the trip. Jack Skellington kept showing up in our reservations and Mr. Squid would disappear. I thought Disney had fixed it.

They’re eating at the airport. What the what? They are wasting precious vacation time! I bet Sheena is also shopping at the kiosks and stocking up on Diet Pepsi. Diet Pepsi is her lifeblood. I bet the first thing she did when they landed was get a Diet Pepsi. Personally, I don’t notice much difference between Pepsi and Coke but I’m not a connoisseur. (Look at me. Sitting in faux Paris and speaking obsolete French.)

We decide to go for a ride on Malstrom before they arrive at the hotel. Monkston is a little nervous because she remembers there is a drop.

“It’s just a little drop. A baby drop. You’ll barely notice it.”

I get a text from Sheena.

And Mickey…

While waiting in line we get another text from Sheena…

We finally get on the ride.

“When’s the drop?”
“Not yet.”

We keep going up.

“Is it now? It’s now, isn’t it?”
“Not yet.”

We go backwards. I can sense growing alarm next to me.

“It’s now, isn’t it! It drops backwards?”
“It doesn’t drop backwards. It’s coming up pretty soon I think.”
“You think? You don’t know?”
“Well not precisely.”

And there it is. The baby drop and we slide down with smiles on our faces.

I find the Norwegian accent of the narrator amusing and think it would be fun to talk like that on the walk back. As we’re walking out, Monkston says, “We should talk in that accent.”

So we begin our silly Swedish Chef conversation.

“Look at dose vomen over dere. Why day vear da tall shoes?”
“Don’t day know dear veet vill hurt?”
“Are da Mickeys and Druids in dear rooms?”
“Why is Aunt Sheena eating in da airport?”
“Should ve change accents in da different countries?”

“Gezhundeit! Gemuitlichkeit! Ach de lieber!”
“Ach de lieber Justin Bieber!”
Our new anthem!
“Ach de lieber Justin Bieber! Ach de lieber Justin Bieber!”

“Bon Giorno!”
“Spaghetti!”
“Mama Mia! Papa Pia!”

Hey youse guys. We’re from Joisey. You from New Yawk?”

“Ok. That’s enough. I don’t know what to do in Japan.”

We walk as quickly as we can to the resort to meet up with Mickey and family. There is lots of hugging and exclaiming over how big the kids have gotten. We give them a brief tour of the resort and get a text that Sheena, Druid and TGM are here. We circle back and I let Squid know we are in the lobby. I can see that corralling everyone together this week is going to be a challenge.

I ask Sheena and Druid why they would waste precious Disney time eating at the airport and Druid somehow raises and points his eyebrows to Sheena.

We take another walk around the resort. I’m glad I’m working off all those croissant calories. It is hot out here! Like Florida hot! Oh yeah.

Everyone comes up to our room with the mediocre view so the pants wearers can be shorts wearers.

I say, “Can you believe they didn’t give us any of our requests? I asked for upper floor and close to the lobby. We are on the second floor and a sizable walk from the lobby. The only thing this room has in common with the lobby is the second floor.”

We and the Mickeys decide to go to Epcot for Moroccan food. The Druids are going to Hollywood Studios for Star Wars Weekend.

Walking again! I think I’m burning off future calories now! Maybe I should get dessert!

The Mickeys are on the dining plan. We are not. The good thing about hanging out with people on the dining plan is that they get dessert and we get to share! Baklava! Yum.

Mickey gets a text to report to the check-in desk about his room. Uh oh. Another issue? That sounds ominous. Either they’re giving him an upgrade or they’re kicking him out.

Back to the resort we go.

It turns out that they just wanted to tell him his room is ready. Their request? To be close to us. Their room? Two floors above us and 20 rooms down. You’re killing me, Disney! I look out their window and they have a view of Hollywood Studios, the quiet pool and The Swan! What the heck? Why do we get grass and access road for a view? Don’t they know who’s organizing these trips?

We decide to go to the pool because we didn’t get quite crispy enough yesterday. Monkston and I arrive first and manage to get six loungers. They are not in the greatest location as our view is that of the backsides of the entertainers. We quickly put towels on the empty chairs and sit guiltily next them. I hope the rest of our party arrives soon.

I get a text from Sheena:

Another nice view!!

What the heck?

The Druids come down and Sheena goes to get us drinks. Where the heck is Mickey?

They are having problems with everything!

Finally, everyone arrives and we have a fun time just chatting and sitting around. The kids are having fun swimming.

Druid wants to know if we can get to dinner at The Wave by monorail.

“We would have to walk all the way through Epcot, take a monorail to the ticket and transportation center and then another monorail to the Contemporary. Remember when we did that last year to get to Ohana and we almost killed Jack Skellington?”

Later, back in the room I get a text from Mickey.

Ha ha!

Maybe. Does anyone remember what happened at The Wave in my last report?

Thanks for delurking and posting! It makes it much more fun to write these things when you get feedback and as you can see I’ve been slacking lately.

Hey Montague! I finally posted a new chapter. I’ll try to be better about posting and not so much time go by.

Yes, please! :lmao:

Hi Marie!

It worked.

Aunt Laura74 says that she will try to update on Friday, and she apologizes to Montague and Ponzi for being a slacker.

And I kept my word, didn’t I?

Oh please come back! I was loving this TR!

The unhungry one eats most of the croissant. It was good but does not beat the mighty cronut.

Isn't that the way it always works, the one who isn't hungry secretly wants to eat everything?

I forgot to try the cronut when I was there in May. Every time you mention it, I regret it even more. :headache:

yay!! another chapter!!!!. and i agree, what's up with your friends having A better room view than you?

some people don't care at all what their room view is. or location. they should be required to state that up front so that those of us who really, REALLY care should always get what we want!!!!:lmao:
