Condom in bed..

If you're paying Disney prices that room should be super clean.

I've been staying offsite for years, and never had a problem like this.

I've never had a problem like that in ANY hotel. I think this was an exceptional situation on property or off. Bugs, sure, occasionally- somewhere like Florida, bugs are almost inevitable- but never, ever underwear and condoms.

The palmetto bug is a cockroach but depending on region, may be considered a different SPECIES of cockroach. It's a small difference- I mean I don't want to be up close and personal with any variation- but that might be what they meant. Different species means different habitats, sizes, abilities.

Wow. I would have been livid. Finding the room not cleaned properly is one thing (a box in water in the bathtub? I can't even imagine how that happened), but finding a condom in the bed is a whole other story. Yes, they upgraded you and sent you in a taxi (without car seats, ugh) to a new resort. That's nice. If you don't like the location of the room, I would speak with the front desk if you feel like having more of your vacation time wasted. I feel, with incidents like this, you have to decide what's worth more - putting more time into the incident or trying to let it go and enjoy your vacation. I would suggest e-mailing guest services after your vacation and telling them your story. Someone in housekeeping obviously needs some serious re-training.

That is a very unfortunate start to your trip. The dirty bathroom is gross, but I would have been content with someone coming up to thoroughly clean it asap. However, the condom in the bed would have truly stretched my ability to calmly address the situation, so I very much understand your dissatisfaction. Thankfully, your requests were granted and you now have a resort upgrade (hopefully at the same price you were already paying), so that's a big plus. However, I would still email guest relations and give them a complete, accurate rundown of what happened, including what POP's manager did to remedy the situation. Sometimes it helps just to feel like your voice is being heard, and guest relations will definitely get back in touch with you to acknowledge the issue. Also, it's a good idea to let someone outside of POP know about this so the matter can be universally addressed with all of its managers and housekeeping staff. Guest relations would be the appropriate place for doing exactly this since the messages are distributed to the teams responsible for whatever the complaint/praise is about. If it were me, I would be content with phrasing my message as "I have already received compensation for my troubles and in no way am asking for anything more, but this situation was disturbing enough to warrant documentation with your department (guest relations) . . . " I would send it off not expecting any other compensation but at least knowing my voice was heard and the matter would be looked into and hopefully steps would be taken to prevent this from happening to someone else.

I hope you enjoy your new resort and the rest of your trip is trouble free.

P.S. Here's the email address for guest relations: WDW.Guest.Communications@disneyworld.com . We use that address often during our trips since we make it a quest to collect names of cast members doing great jobs. I want them to know their efforts were noticed and appreciated.

A room in that condition is not acceptable no matter what resort it is. I can understand completely why you are upset.

I am not what else you want from Disney in terms of compensation? You demanded to be moved to a new resort, which they did, moving you to Port Orleans which is an upgrade from a value to a moderate resort. The only thing I can think of is possible refunding the first night. Disney has done everything they can to correct the situation. To be honest at that time of night I would have requested a room change and not bothered moving resorts.

As to your other grievances, I am not sure how you expected Disney to transfer you to another resort without a taxi? Port Orleans Riverside is a large resort, the rooms are very spread out. Lastly your in Florida, there will always be bugs/insects/snakes etc. It does not matter how clean a resort is, there will always be bugs, they can only do so much to control them.

I highly recommend though that you let the anger go otherwise your not going to enjoy your vacation.

Right. That's why I'm not really understanding the outcry for more compensation. Unless you're paying extra for Orleans, which I doubt, you've already received really good compensation. It's like going from Laquinta to Marriott which would not happen in the "real world".

Where did OP or anyone else suggest to OP to ask for more compensation other than a refund on the first night - which IMO isn't too much to ask at all.

POP to POR isn't that much of a jump IMO.

Its a value to a moderate, with more dining options than just counter service, probably has nicer pools (and slide), and queen beds with boat service to DS. I think management went over and above by moving OP to any other resort than the one they were at, in lieu of just giving them another room at Pop that was clean, underwear and condom free. :)

Because the OP is not just complaining about the state of the room she got. She's also complaining about what they did to make it right, which implies she thinks they didn't go far enough. She did get half back for the first night and she got upgraded to a moderate. Which is actually worth a lot more than one comped night at POP anyway.

At the beginning of OP post they ask for advice on how to proceed or who to contact. To me that implies they want to elevate their grievances and are not satisfied with how they have been compensated.

I think OP was just venting. it was late at night, tired kids, tired adults, long walk to room. Hopefully they woke up feeling better and are enjoying their vacation.

To me it doesn't imply that at all - as I previously stated I think OP was venting (rightfully so) and maybe wanted contact information when they got home whom to email to report what happened. Hopefully they report the good as well as the bad and are just enjoying their vacation at this point at POR. :)

I entered a completely random date in July. PoP is 129 for a basic room and port Orleans is 219 for a basic room. How is that not a significant jump? One is a value hotel- one is a moderate.

I don't care about the money aspect. The hotel itself is not that much of a jump. We all know Disney resorts are overpriced. We did a split stay POP to POR, so I am speaking from my own personal experience.

Nope.

"I posted this on my Fb and I was told to go here and see if you guys had any advice on how to proceed/contact.."

And then the things she complains about at the very end are nonproblems. She could have packed up the luggage if she didn't want to wait for it. Port Orleans is a huge property- taxi transport was necessary and you aren't gauranteed a convenient room at any resort:sad2:

I'm sympathetic because I think it was an awful room experience. But Disney went above and beyond imo

Oh, we're in agreement on that. My point is though that Disney classes those two differently, with different amenities.

Regrettably, Disney hotels are not the cleanest. We've stayed at POR, AKL, WL, and BC CL. None of the rooms would pass inspection in Europe. BC was the worst, dirty underwear with dead roaches in the corner of the room. We simply asked for a deep clean, and were given a bottle of wine the following day. As none of us drink, we returned the bottle to staff.

Grody. Sorry your vacation started like that.

If I had been in that situation, I would have asked for a new room at Pop, and have the manager with me while I inspect the new one for cleanliness. And then maybe a comp on the night's stay. Maybe.

Hope the rest of your vacation is much smoother. We love Pop and we love POR...they are very different vibes, however.

I was sympathetic until the complaints started about #1 the rain #2 the taxi ride (because they can't do a warp jump to other resorts a la Star Trek) #3 the location of the room at the new, upgraded for no additional fee resort.

The first room was in no way acceptable. The rest is nonsense. If the family is that tired, move rooms, not resorts. And if you decide to move, try and be happy, stop complaining.

Obviously there's no excuse for poor housekeeping. But one other thing that came to my mind is that we shouldn't leave our rooms in "pigpen" status just because someone else is doing the cleaning. I mean seriously, leaving a condom in the bed and expecting housekeeping to pick that up for you? Disgusting. I have to wonder what state the room was in before housekeeping came in.

Again, no excuse for poor housekeeping. But I think multiple lessons can be learned from this thread.
