I love our condo (Windsor) and will be using the same one in Nov. The only thing that I'm concerned with is the key. It's just a simple lock -- owner mailed me the key. If I weren't an honest person, I could make a copy and use it to raid the next guest. (Granted I don't live here)
Other than the computer, we don't really have anything of value, but still..... At night, my DH wedges a chair under the knob. Crude but effective.
Am I being paranoid? What do y'all do for security?

the places I stay have the electronic locks and the keys are changed when a new person checks in - at home I have the old key lock - but I also have a thing on the door too.

one is the chain - the other is what a lot of hotels use now - it is hard for me to descriptive.

but both are mounted on the door.

maybe you could get one of those alarms that they should on TV?

sometimes those type of keys can only be copied from the original (which I would think the owners kepts)...

I hope so.

teachingmykids... We will be renting a condo at Windsor Palms thru a management company. Do you have to stop at the gate house to check in before they let you go to the condo? What do you do with your cash/travelers checks when you go out? Is there a safe in the condo? Do you carry it around with you? Thanks for your help.

It is a gated community. You stop and check in the first time, get a pass, then the rest of your stay you just drive slowly thru the gate and they look at your pass. To leave you must go thru another gate. You can't just speed out of the area. I'm assuming there are cameras too.
We carry minimal cash. Everything goes on the card. There are only a few carts that are cash only. DD carries around her quarters and pennies for the mashers!
I hope you like it here, we will probably always stay here for now on. It QUIET -- even Fri. night when the rush hit, you couldn't hear a thing! That's worth it, right there. We walked thru the clubhouse, but haven't done anything there. The pool looks nice, there are 3 machines in the "arcade", a very nice fitness room and the store has the essentials.
Have a great time!

edit: No safe in ours.

Thanks for the info...Can't wait to get there. We will be driving straight thru from Maine so we will need the peace and quiet when we get there!!! :thewave:

I own a condo at Venetian Bay Villages - it is gated and the security codes are changed frequently. I have regular keys and my renters get them from a coded lock box - that code is changed frequently as well. and the keys are the ones that a locksmith will not duplicate - they are stamped - not to be copied.

I also have a deadbolt lock on the main door. I guess someone could in theory copy the key, but I have never heard of any owners having that problem.
