Are any of these clubs really legit and actually produce these kinds of savings? We almost bought into one this past weekend and are still considering it. But, wanted to ask if these really do exist or if it is a lot of propaganda. The offer was $2000 cost and $199 annual membership fees. And supposedly you get unlimited weeks of vacations and of course prices vary, but a lot of $199-$399. Just sounds too go be be true and you know what they say about that.. Thanks,

Depends on many factors, but usually they are not a great deal. In general, there are usually some hidden costs (high apr financing of original fee, "maintanance fees" that must be paid even if you don't use it in a given year, "transfer and upgrade fees" to use other locations or bigger units) Also, most of these deals are in locations that are not the nicest, closest, newest most posh facitilities. You can often rent at these places (non-holiday) for a similar rate without the 2K outlay up front. And of course, you will probably find that securing a ressie during high demand weeks is limited because that's when everyone wants to reserve.

Your best bet is to ask to speak to at least 3 current owners, preferably ones who have owned for at least 2-3 years and see what they have to say.

SkyAuction.com has weeks for between $229-$299. Type "resort certificates" into the keyword search engine.

You buy the certificate and book when needed. They are older units, and they will NOT work well for peak season. They are off-season units they can't book and you are getting the leftovers.

No hidden fees but sometimes an additional $20 service fee.

Don't join anything! Rent owners weeks, or buy weeks from sites *I'll have to do some searching - I think it's DawnM here who uses the purchasing a week through a site thing :)

Don't buy into a vacation club. I haven't heard of any that actually work.
My parents bought into one and when they started trying to use it for trips, found that options were so limited as to be unusable in the way they had been led to believe. The customer service people kept pushing for places they had no interest in and none of the ones they wanted to use was available even with an open schedule.
