Hi! We booked a deluxe family stateroom with veranda, and really want to upgrade to a concierge room! It's just 2 of us, we are doing the 7 night western Caribbean on the Fantasy. Has anyone done this while checking in at the port? If so, what did they charge? Thanks!

The price you pay to upgrade at the port varies from cruise to cruise, and also depends on the category you're upgrading from/to.

We are category 4c... I'm not too familiar with how the categories are done... Which are best?

it will depend on which concierge room type you want to upgrade to. Keep in mind that typically the Fantasy has the most expensive concierge rooms in the fleet.

"Best" is in the eye of the beholder.

There are those who prefer verandahs only. Others simply love inside rooms. Some people prefer room midship, other more forward or aft. One person might like higher decks, another likes the lower decks.

You pick a room that you think will work for you. Location, room size, cost. That's what you make your decision based on.

I noticed they are a few thousand more! I was hoping to upgrade at port for a little cheaper. We paid 4K for our cruise and I just noticed the concierge version of our room was 6k (ish). Ideally we want to do the one bedroom.

We just picked one and booked! This is our second cruise with Disney, we have done the same type of room (with verandah) but aren't picky about the location.

Upgrading at port will always be cheaper than paying the price on line prior but concierge rooms are getting harder and harder to get as the get booked in advance typically. if there is one or two that didnt get booked, you have to get to the port way ahead of time and get checked in and beat everyone else that wants to upgrade to the supervisor's desk.

Not as easy as it used to be.

Okay, so basically just getting there at opening would be our best bet. Any idea of the rate difference from online to at the port?

Have you checked your cruise to see if there are even CL rooms to upgrade to?

I know for both my (mid) Dec and October Dream cruises CL has been sold out forever.

I have upgraded from a cat 4 to CL once (on the Dream) and it was a huge money saver. But, you have to be ok with there being no CL available.

If it's only around $2k more and you want to do concierge, I would just book it. You're probably looking at around $1k to upgrade at the port assuming there is availability.

Yep! I actually checked right before posting just to make sure. I wouldn't be surprised if it sold out by the time our vacation comes around, we still have like 3 months. It's a little encouraging knowing you've upgraded from my current category to a CL!!

This is a good way of looking at it! We are doing a week at Disneyworld and then a week on the cruise, so convincing the BF is a little harder than convincing me!! Lol

Are you comparing a 4c to a Cat. V or a Cat. T? When we have priced the Cat. T, it has been somewhere between $7-8k for a 7 night cruise. They have been sold out on our prior cruises by the time we sailed.

The demand for concierge rooms on the Fantasy has become truly frightening. Last I checked, literally 98% of all available rooms for the rest of the year were sold out, including the very expensive sailings over Thanksgiving and Christmas. This is very scary to me since it means that current concierge prices must be considerably lower than what DCL realistically could get away with. Especially considering that their loyalty program is extremely limited and doesn't give any additional benefits for concierge guests. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see concierge prices going up 50% over the next few years and a much larger fraction of the two new ships devoted to concierge: if the market will support such prices, why shouldn't a company charge them(?).

Concierge has already gone up like crazy! Two years ago we did a BTB, cat V in the same room 2- 4 night cruises on the Dream. We paid roughly $2500 per cruise. The following year CL had gone up to $3000 and with the latest releases, it appears 4 night CLs have gone up to $3700 for 4 nights. (We sailed in Oct so I'm comparing apples to apples).

Three years ago I paid approx $10000 for 4 CL on the Fantasy in August. On opening day of this year's summer cruise release, the same cruise was $14,000.

On our Fantasy cruise in February, we checked on a port upgrade to CL after we checked in. There was one HA suite left and the cost to upgrade was $3000. It was a 7 day cruise and we were booked in a 5B. Since it was only two of us, we decided to pass. After we walked away from the supervisor's desk another cruiser approached us and asked if we had taken the suite. We told him no because the price was a little high for just the two of us. He asked us the price and I told him $3000. He told us that he had checked before us and the cost for him to upgrade from an inside to the suite was $6000.

Quite possible as the formula for cost is based on the cabin type and the price you booked it at.

Since he was in an inside cabin - less expensive than a verandah cabin - that explains part of the difference. He probably also booked the inside either fairly early when rates were low or he booked it last minute at a special discount rate - also making the difference between his booked room and a concierge room that much more.
