Concierge Service?

I'm planning our family's first trip to DL and was wondering if it would be worth it to stay at a concierge level? Since there isn't a meal plan, I was thinking it might work out well for breakfast, snacks and even a light dinner. Have you tried it and if so, which hotel would you recommend?

Thanks for your help!!

We stayed at GCH with concierge service one December. Breakfast is certainly doable (more continental style), lunch too if you eat lightly and plan on coming back to the hotel for the afternoon anyway, but dinner is nothing more than an appetizer and a glass of wine. We definitely found ourselves eating out for dinner and usually lunch too. The food they did provide was pretty tasty, but it is essentially the same thing day in and day out. Add to that, the level of service at the concierge level definitely left something to be desired. They were anything but helpful, didn't do anything to get us our rooms on time, and even resorted to rather rude behavior when our room was over three hours late and we were spending more time in the lounge than they would have liked after traveling since 2 am that morning and spending the day in the parks. We don't have any plans to spend that much money for such little benefit any time soon. If we choose to stay on site again it will definitely be nonconcierge.

It has been awhile since we have stayed (maybe 2+ years?) but we found it to save us a good deal of $$ on food but we had 2 older teenagers and a young one with us. We also stayed in the Grand CA. The big bonus there is the fireworks viewing on the balcony. For a smaller group it is probably not such a deal. What we usually ate was continental style breakfast foods, afternoon tea was nice (finger sandwiches & scones) and the desserts (very yummy) with the wine and cheese. The big one for us was the bottles of water ( I think sodas too, but those used to be in glass bottles so you could not take those into the park) we could pack up to take to the park. I feel the food is more about in between meals rather than taking the place of a meal. But we were able to just buy a good dinner and just eat in the lounge the rest of the day. You also have to go back to the hotel, too. Takes away time in the park. I never had an issue with the staff. They always smiled and said Hello when we got off the elevator. They also answered any questions we had about the goings on there & at the parks.

We will be down in June for Father's Day and we used DVC points to stay @ Concierge @ Paradise Pier. Now, I am finding that this kind of reservation is not being allowed with DVC points anymore so this will probably be our last time @ concierge level. :sad1:

We've stayed concierge and loved it. But we only stayed two nights at the DLH. I agree with the pp in that it might not be worth the money for extended stays. But I also agree with the other pp that with three or more kids who snack all day, it may be worth it. For us, it was as much about convenience as anything else. Dollar for dollar? You'd probably save buying meals/snacks in the parks vs. the extra it costs per night. This is the reason we didn't go with concierge when we went to WDW. Just couldn't justify the extra $1,000.

Thanks for all of your help! Since the original posting, I've realized that the cost of concierge service varies greatly. At PPH, concierge is affordable, about $400 for a 4 night stay, while at GCH it's about $1000. Since I'm leaning toward GCH (bunk beds, proximity to park, style of hotel), I might forego concierge service this time around.
