Concierge service??

Just returned from a 3-night on the Wonder. We paid for a Cat. 12 with the kids free. It was just under $1300 for four of us. We were upgraded to a 10 prior to sailing (4 in a 12 doesn't work). At the port, I inquired about upgrades and we got a Cat. 3 (handicapped room 8600) for $900 more. So four of us sailed on the 3 night for just under $2300! We have been soooo spoiled! The room was HUGE! So much larger than standard 3's. I don't know how we will ever go back! A regular 3 will be going down! I am still in utter shock at what we paid!

$2300 for four people in a Cat. 3! OMG! I did not want to leave the ship!

We were upgraded to 8600 on our first cruise in 2003 - a 3 day. We had booked a Cat. 5. We were so spoiled and absolutely loved that room - it's still my wife's favorite - now we have 7 or so cruises under our belt all in Cat. 3 - so DCL got their money back...

That was an awesome upgrade from a Cat. 10/12...

I have no idea how we will ever cruise in a smaller room again! Our stateroom was amazingly huge! We looked at online photos of other 3's and couldn't believe how much smaller they were! Just the living room furniture area is so much more crowded! We had so much floor space it was amazing! The entryway hallway alone was longer than most staterooms! We were most certainly blessed to have gotten such a great room at such a fabulous price!

Two things on this,

Yes think I am not going to leave my room for 7 days and nights in August,

But, I think you can swap back down again, I fly either upper class or Premium economy, I swap between the two, in fact to Venice a short trip I will go economy.

It all depends on the Cruise, where it calls, the sea days etc, I personally think a 3/4 cruise it really wouldn't be worth it, but thats just my opinion,

Just the living room furniture area is so much more crowded! We had so much floor space it was amazing! The entryway hallway alone was longer than most staterooms! We were most certainly blessed to have gotten such a great room at such a fabulous price!

We loved the Cat 3 room so much that we looked into booking it directly for our next cruise, and it was going to cost over $8000. But that was just a little too much for us, so we ended up booking connecting Cat 6 rooms for our next cruise, to try to create our own suite experience for 1/2 the price. But our concerns about how we would *manage* without the concierge service went out the window when we ended upgrading to the Roy suite on our next cruise! But here we are again with connecting Cat 6's booked for our next cruise, wondering how on earth we'll be able to top the first two cruise experiences!

I have always wondered who has so much money to cruise? I feel fortunate that we can cruise alongside you and get most of the same benefits as you do, but since you guys seem to cruise "in the upper echelon" please tell me about your fellow concierge-service folks?

1. Regular people who save up and possibly forgo a trip or two (or three or four) to make one extra special?
2. La creme de la creme in terms of household income?
3. Folks who may have experienced a personal setback and are throwing caution to the wind?
4. A combination of all?

We are usually in the bottom of the bottom of the boat when we cruise, and grateful to be there, but a girl can dream, can't she?

Please don't be jealous of us for sailing in a Category 1. I have saved any extra money that I could possibly have to cruise this way. I even tutored non-stop for two years putting ALL of that extra earned money into this planned vacation. Hence, I could have been spending time with my family or spending money in other areas.

Although we don't make "la creme de la creme in terms of household income," we take two vacations each year (usually to Disney World) that we save money for monthly. Since we travel to Disney World a lot, we like to stay in "better" hotels during our trips such as a two bedroom villa at the Beach Club for a week as we spend time lounging out or at the pools. We never stay off site! By NO MEANS do we through "caution to the wind." As stated above, we have a goal and we SAVE, SAVE, SAVE. These are OUR dreams.

We were on 4/18 - 4/25 and the concierge team was Patty (from Mexico) and Richard (from The Netherlands). Patty was the actual Concierge, but we thought Richard was the better of the two. The people in those positions seem to change pretty often, so there's no way to know if you will have the same team.

The issue for me is two fold.

• Cost in getting to USA
• And time off work.

Often, unless the ships are in Europe the cost in getting to/from the USA for a family of four is far more than any cruise cost, so if i go to the USA, I go once only, so you might as well enjoy it.

Also I have limited amount of time off work, so does my wife, I know many people cruise twice or three times a year, or even more, with cost of flights and time off work thats impossible.

So I counter that with a better room.

Tee, hee, that's what I'm talking about - saving up for a Cat 12!

No, I'll be perfectly happy in my Cat 12 whereever it winds up... but I just might take a sneak peak on the last morning when all of the doors are propped open at the suites.

How often is often, say six months?

well-it is less than a year beause we have never had the same person 2 cruises in a row-even when we went twice in a year. Maybe they do 6 month contracts and don't come back to that same job
