Concierge on points?

Has anyone stayed Concierge on points? If so, did it calculate to be the same as cash?

Any other thoughts on the subject would be appreciated! Thanks.

I looked into it and it didn't seem to make sense. But look into it yourself. Call WDW get a room only rate for your time period and then go to the DVC members site and look up the same room & time period. I think you'll find it might not be the best use of your points. You could always think about renting your points and using the cash to pay or defer the cost of concierge. Let us know what you think.

It's actually a fairly complicated comparison.

Some members will tell you to calculate $10 a point, because that's what you can get if you go to the trouble of renting your points and then using the cash to stay concierge.

Others will tell you to calculate at just over $6 a point (varying by up to $0.50 depending on your resort ownership) because that's what the points are costing you when everything is amortized. (Which is, itself, a complex calculation based on borrowing rates, your best guess as to the future rate of inflation and so forth.)

There is general concensus that, while members do use points to stay concierge as a splurge from time to time, the best way to use DVC points is to stay at DVC property. You lose the personal service and free snacks of concierge, but--for a 1-bedroom or larger--you gain at least twice as much room and sleeping space, a kitchen and a jacuzzi.

We had to bank our points last year, but decided to use it for something really different this year. You see...every year we have a theme to our family vacation. DD gets to choose the theme, but this year we thought we would surprise her by staying at the AKL conceirge level. Do we think we lost money be making this kind of ressie? No. If we had to pay out of pocket then it would be a hardship on us. We couldn't afford this luxury at this time, but with our points it is possible.

Only you can decide which way is feasible....pay outright or use points. We usually stay in our homebase which is VWL. How we love our home! We will surely miss it this year, but hey! We got 40 years.

We had ressies for OKW last week ariving Mon. Decided to go a day earlier about a week prior. Where to stay???
uhm

AKL Concierge, it was about 9 points (+/-) than the deluxe savana view.

We had a great time and took advantage of the snacks, drinks and wine in the evening. We didn't need PS's.

would we do it again, nope. But it was great being able to with no cash out of pocket. Of course with better planning we could have sold those points and paid cash and had some $ in our pocket.

I have stayed in the villas 9 times in the last three years.I stayed in studios, 1 bedrooms, and 2 bedrooms during that time but this July on our 5th on thr 4th trip we are staying 4 nights Polynesian concierge.Without the points we would have never been able to stay concierge because of the $2,200.00 ptice tag for that room.I allways wanted to stay concierge and here I go.I did have some 2nd thoughts and we could have stayed in a 2 bedroom for just a few more points but we just wanted to stay in a different resort and not one thats DVC.I guess we will live and learn but we could say we did stay concierge and get some gold keys. He.He.He...

We have stayed concierge level at both The Poly, and AKL using points. In fact, some were weekend nights during peak season.

Would we do it again? YES.
We fully intend to sample YC concierge, as well as revisit The Poly and AKL.

Is it the best use of points from a financial standpoint? NO.
But it's not the best use of cash either.

Is it a bad use of points from a financial standpoint? NO.
Not as long as you were staying concierge anyway using cash.

Putting the finances aside, is it a good use of points? YES.
The best use of your points is using them for whatever makes you happy.

Of course, this is only my opinion.

.

Ditto to everything, right down to having stayed at both AKL and Poly concierges on points. We didn't do peak season, but both stays were long weekends.

Its a great use of points.

As the previous posters have indicated, if it makes you happy then it's a good use of points.

::yes::

Thanks to all who put their two cents in. Think I will use points for concierge as a splurge for the first few days of our two week stay!
Now the only question that remains is where to book it!

I can see you have stayed in the Epcot resorts over the last few years so maybe you could stay at the Grand Floridian concierge.I heard good reviews about the concierge in the GF.It's been a while since you stayed on the rail so any of the 3 would be nice.

We thought the Poly was nice but when we do concierge again, it will be AKL again. GF is probably very nice, but the AKL was really great.

For those of you that have used your points to enjoy concierge service at the Grand Floridian.. which service is it of the 2??

So true!!! But, what a wonderful way to "waste" both points and money!!! I just hope I can stop being "frugal" and do that someday!!!
