I would like to book a two bedroom concierge level room at AKV for myself and friends who are not DVC members(I'll work on them while were there!). Because the room is under my name and they are not related, will they have a problem using any concierge level service such as the 6th floor lounge or sunrise savanah?

Thanks!

I don't think so as long as their names are also on the reservation. However, I don't know if they can book the sunrise safari or if you have to book it for them.

Anyone staying in the room can use those things. But they're going to want the names of everyone in the party so they can issue everyone a room key, figure out charging privileges, etc.

The room key is what is going to give you access to the Concierge Floor. The elevator will not take you there until you swipe a valid room key for a Concierge Level Room.

Thanks for the answers everyone, they were exactly what I was hoping to hear!

Just for information, there are only five two bedroom lockoff villas on the AKV Concierge level. And they go very quickly. At least one is handicapped accessible. Three are on the Sunset Savanna and two are pool view.

That's interesting. On the AKV FAQ thread in the resorts forum, they specifically say that since DVC took over some rooms, all standard concierge rooms are savannah view. Are they implying that "standard" is same as a " DVC studio"? And, as you say, a 2 bedroom though can be savannah or pool?
Are one bedroom view choices the same as two bed room?

just curious

Before the 6th and most of the 5th floors became DVC, those rooms were called deluxe rooms. All on 6th were concierge. A relative few on 5th were club level compared to the large # of rooms on the 5th. They were called deluxe because they were larger than the "standard" rooms on the lower floors. So now the only rooms that can be booked as concierge in the hotel part of the lodge are standard sized rooms.

Most AKV studios are larger than standard rooms since they were deluxe rooms in their previous life. Lisa probably knows if the value studios are as small as a standard AKV room. But the concierge studios are larger than standard concierge rooms.

Finally, the one bedroom club level views have the same views as the 2 BR as the one bedrooms are actually part of a 2 BR lockoff. So three are savannah view and 2 are pool view.

Prior to DVC moving into AKLodge, the hotel's concierge guests occupied rooms on the 6th and 5th floors of AKL where the hotel's larger "deluxe" size rooms are located. DVC has taken over those floors so the hotel concierge guests are now housed on the hotel's 4th floor. All the rooms on the 4th and lower floors are the "standard" sized hotel rooms so the hotel concierge is now referred to as "standard concierge" to reflect the fact that the guests now stay in "standard" sized rooms rather than the "deluxe" sized rooms. So the comment about all standard concierge rooms having a savannah view is referring to the hotel concierge not the DVC concierge.

And, as you say, a 2 bedroom though can be savannah or pool?

There are a total of five 2BR lockoffs in DVC Concierge, three with a view of the Sunset Savanna and two with a pool view. They can be rented out as a 2BR or "locked off" and rented as a 1BR and a studio. I don't know how DVC allocates these villas but perhaps two of the five are rented out as a 2BR and the remaining three are rented as 1BRs and studios. As far as view, perhaps one of the 2BR villas has a savanna view and the other a pool view? Again, I'm guessing here.

Hey, thanks for the indepth explanation! It can seem confusing can't it. You have crystalized my thoughts exactly! lol

Lancer, good luck booking the concierge 2 BR.:thumbsup2

Lisa S, during our recent stay I noticed some rooms on the 5th that didn't have the DVC logo on the doors. Do you know if there are still some rooms that aren't DVC. These rooms overlook the entrance to the lodge and then 2 or 3 rooms adjacent to the suite. I can imagine that the latter would be used to enlarge the suite.

Only six of the "standard view" (parking lot view) hotel rooms on the 5th floor were converted to villas. Those six rooms became the two Value 2BR lockoffs that face the parking lot (unit 52 on the map below). They are on the Ostrich trail which is to your left if you are standing out in front of the main entrance to AKL/V. There may be as many as nine more standard view hotel rooms on that side that remain part of AKL (the hotel rooms across the hall from Units 50 and 51 on the map). None of the standard view hotel rooms on the other side (the Giraffe trail) were converted so the parking lot side of that entire hallway is still part of AKL (the rooms across the hall from Units 46, 47 and 48).

I don't know how many "bays" the suites occupy but it looks like five bays were not converted on one side of the lobby (the empty space across the hall from Unit 22) and three on the other side (across the hall from Unit 42) which are probably all part of that particular suite. Maybe there are multiple doors into that larger suite or maybe they kept a couple of regular rooms next to it in case the suite guests brought along their staff (nanny, bodyguard, entourage, etc.)?

Thanks, Lisa. It was the rooms across from 22 that I noticed. From previous posts about the suites, I do think at least one room can be added to each.
