Concierge Level Here We Come! - Index added

So, by the time we finished wandering around the resort, it was about 1:30. I called to see if our room was ready but it wasn't so we decided to head to EPCOT for a little while. First we stopped at Bell Services so that Marge could leave her backpack plus change shoes and get her sunscreen. Once we got sunscreened up, we headed to the bus stop. We only had about a 15 minute wait for the bus. Once we got to Epcot, Marge went off to buy her tickets and I went to Guest Services to activate my AP and to buy a DDE card.
Our first stop was Spaceship Earth. Neither one of us has ridden this since the rehab. There was no line so we walked right on. We both enjoyed it even though we had a problem with the audio in our vehicle for part of the ride. Once we were out of SSE, my phone rang but by the time I pulled it out of my pocket, I missed the call. We waited for a couple of minutes and then I checked my voicemail. It was 2:30 and our room was ready! The message included our room number (6206) and since we already had our keys, we could go to the room whenever we wanted.
Now we had a dilemna: do we head to the room now or wait? We decided to spend some more time at Epcot. So we went over to Canada to watch the movie. We were lucky again and within about a minute of us walking into the waiting area for the movie, the movie was starting. This was the first time that I have seen the movie since its update and I enjoyed it. I am not a big Martin Short fan but he really didn't bother me.

By the time we got out of the movie, it was really getting hot! We decided to wander around WS a bit and about 4:00 decided to head back to the room. By this time, I was vert hot and I was tired of carrying my camera bag. Normally, I don't carry my camera bag around WDW. I usually just have my point & shoot camera with me and leave my SLR and its lenses at home. However, since we were going to be doing the Sunrise Safari on Sunday, I wanted my SLR with me.

I don't think that we waited that long for the bus and soon we were back at AKV. We went directly to our room and found it to be excellent! It was a studio with the bed near the sliding glass doors.

Looking at the room from the slider.

I didn't take a picture of the shower, but it was a normal shower/tub combination.

When we looked out from the room, we noticed that they were painting the building. Also, the area of the svannah that we overlooked had a lot of trees and we didn't see any animals on the first day.

I called down to Bell Services and we had all of our bags plus my owner's locker within 5-10 minutes. The CM from Bell Services explained that much of the furniture came from Africa or was made with African wood. He also let us know that the pool was open for 24 hours.

By the time that we had our luggage, it was just about 5. So we decided to head to the CL lounge for our first wine & hors d'oueve session. Luckily for us, we were on the 6th floor and the CL lounge is also on the 6th floor. So it was extremely convient. We were very impressed with the spread. They had:

- 3 types of beer (Michelob, Miller Lite, Tusker)
- 4 types of South African wine (1 white, 1 rose, and 2 reds)
- milk, soda, iced tea, juice, tea & coffee
- flat breads with 3 different spreads avialable (olive, yogurt, and ?)
- cold selection of cheese & crackers, olives, morrocan carrots, roasted peppers, hearts of palm, uncrustables
- a selection of 3 hot dishes which was a soup and 2 other dishes.

The hot selections changed each day while the cold selection was the same. For the hot selections, there was always a soup and then 2 other dishes. The other dishes varied but included: chicken satay, chicken wings, ribs, meatballs, stc.

We both definitely got spoiled by the selection available in the lounge! :drinking1 popcorn::

After our snack, we decided to head to MK for the fireworks. By this point, I had switched from my camera bag to my almost empty backpack.

When we got to MK, we first stopped right by City Hall so that Marge could try to hula hoop.

Next we walked through the Emporium and Marge found a set of Pirate Mickey ears that she had to have!

We decided that our first attraction would be Haunted Mansion. So we started heading that way but stopped to take the obligatory castle pictures.

20080515MK_09.jpg

We had virtually no wait for Haunted Mansion and as always we both enjoyed this attraction. We then headed towards Fantasy Land and got fast passes for Peter Pan. The return time was something like 9:30. We then went to Mickey's philharmagic. This is my favorite 3-D attraction at the parks!

By this time I was getting a bit hungry since I didn't eat that much for the hors d'ouerves. We stopped at Cosmic Ray's and I made the mistake of ordering the double bacon cheeseburger instead of the single. Well I ate about 1/2 of it and when I said that I was done, Marge asked if I was going to finish. I said no that I was full. So she asked me to cut the remaining burger and half and then she ate most of the burger remaining. :confused3

After my dinner break, we went to Monster's Inc. We probably had about a 5-10 minute wait before the show. This is the second time that I have seen this show and I love it. It always makes me laugh. :lmao:

Next up was the TTA which I love at night. I think that it is so neat to see the castle and tomorrowland all lit up.

(not taken from the TTA)

From there we were off to Buzz Lightyear which only had about a 5 minute wait. We decided to get separate cars and on this round, I outscored Marge by about 3:1. When we got out of Buzz, it was time for Wishes. However, Marge confused me a bit here. Originally, we had been planning on heading to DTD this evening. But Marge said that she likes to always go to the fireworks on her first night. So we decided to go to MK instead of DTD. So, now it is about 10 minutes prior to Wishes when we get off Buzz and Marge says "Let's see what the line is like for Space Mountain." :confused3
At this point I am very confused! I said, but don't you want to see the fireworks because we won't be able to do both. Well she then agrees to do the fireworks. As we get to the bridge out of Fantasyland, Marge decides that she wants to stop here to watch. I point out the trees and tell her that I have been on the other bridge from tomorrowland and most of the fireworks were blocked by the trees. She insisted so we stood there to watch and

Yes, many of the fireworks were blocked by the trees. :(

After Wishes, we headed to Peter Pan to use our FP and then we decided to head out. We didn't make the first bus but did get seats on the 2nd bus. This ended up being quite a long day. We were up at 4:30 AM and we didn't get back to our room until 11:20 PM. At that point, Marge decided to go to the pool for a swim and I decided to take a shower since it was sooooo hot out!

Conceirge level sounds like they put out quite a spread. Now I have to try it. And ever since I heard about the sunrise safari I've been dying to try it too(although the getting up before the sun part doesn't do much for me).

You mentioned that you bought DVC on a solo trip. I have my 1st solo trip coming up in Oct and I have a funny feeling... I could get "convinced" (yeah right... like it would be difficult!) to a purchase. Your TR isn't making it any easier!!:rotfl:

Keep 'em coming. popcorn::

Enjoying your trip report and pictures. I am totally in love with the AKL. I know you wer having the time of your lives. Looking forward to your next installment. :thumbsup2

Great trip report so far!!!

I'm looking forward to hearing about the Sunrise Safari and more about what they offer in the club lounge, since we're going to stay there and take the safari, too!

Sounds like a great trip so far... thanks for sharing!

On buying into DVC: I am so glad that I did. When I am in a studio, I love having a couch to relax on instead of watching TV or reading on the bed. When I am in larger accomodations, I am really loving the extra space! It is great to be able to spread out a bit and not have everything piled in 1 room. Good luck with your decision. I did a lot of research on these boards before I went including posting lots of questions on the DVC boards so that when I took my tour, I had a lot of my questions answered already. Do you already have a guide? If not, just PM me if you would like a guide recommendation.

Great trip report!! Can't wait for the rest:thumbsup2

Thanks! With any luck, I may get another update up tonight.

Thanks! I stayed at AKL for the first time May '07 and I was hooked!

Great update!

Thanks!

Well for our second day, Marge hadn't slept too well the previous 2 nights. So she decided that she was going to sleep in and would meet me at the park at 11. So, I ended up getting up at 6:50. After getting ready, I picked up my cell phone which had been charging since about 6 PM last night and I headed to the concierge lounge for breakfast.

I was very impressed with the breakfast spread! First let's start with the beverages:
- Coffee including cappacino and expresso (the people who liked coffee seemed to love the machine!)
- Tea including normal black (or is it orange pekoe? I am a tea drinker and I don't know :rotfl2: ), herbal, etc
- Milk
- Juices, 3 types, orange, plus 2 others
- Water
- Also you could ask the for soda if you wanted

Now for the food:
- various cut up fruits (melons, strawberries, etc)
- whole fruit
- 3 types of cold cereal
- oatmeal (plain with brown sugar that you could mix in)
- an african hot cereal similar to oatmeal
- bagels
- croissants
- danishes/pastry
- butter, cream cheese, jelly for bagels, croissants, etc
- yogurt

On this morning, I tried the hot african dish and it really didn't do much for me. I then settled in for what became my standard breakfast: hot tea, croissant with jelly, pastry, fruit (most mornings), and then top it off with a diet coke! :drinking1

OK, I have let you hanging long enough on the hints from leaving my house and the cat sitter. So, while I am eating breakfast, I notice that I have voicemails on my phone. So I listen to them and find.....

Yes you guessed it! We left the chain on the door and the cat sitter can't get in! :worried: :( :sad1: :cat: Well, I call her that morning (maybe 7:15 or so) and she said that she was able to open the door just enough to get food & water in plus pet Daisy (i.e. the cat). So she went out to buy some food to feed her, since of course, the food that I left for her is sitting on the kitchen table. Well after swearing at my self for a few minutes, I start wracking my brain. What can we do? The garage has a door opener on it so it is basically locked! The back slider is locked! And of course the front door has the chain on it! That covers all of the doors. As I am worrying and eating my breakfast, I remember that I had a key on my key chain that unlocks the door chain! So, I call the cat sitter back to get her mailing address and go talk to the concierge lounge staff. I explain the situation and ask if they can Fedex the key for me so that it can arrive the next morning. Well first the woman asks if I have a Fedex account and I say no. She replies that they use UPS not Fedex. :confused3 Of course my response is "That's fine, I just need it to arrive tomorrow". So I give her the key, the shipping information and my room number so that they can charge the shipping cost to my room.

After that, I gather my stuff and start heading for the bus to DHS. First I stop at the AKL gift shop and do some pin trading. I talked to one of the CMs for probably 15-20 minutes about pin trading and then headed to the bus. As I was heading to the bus stop, the DHS bus was coming up. So I was able to get right on. There were only 4 of us on the bus!

I was able to get to DHS before opening and as I was going through the turnstile, I asked the CM if Toy Story Mania was going to be open today. Unfortunately, the CM said no it wasn't. Of course I probably asked 5 more CMs and then checked 3-4 times. But no, it wasn't open. :(

I haven't been to DHS for opening since probaby 1999 or 2000. So it was great to see the skit and I was right at the rope so I got a good view.

20080516HS_04.jpg

I walked up towards the hat and took the obligatory picture. (Actually the picture could have been taken a bit later, I don't really remember)

20080516HS_07.jpg

I then went to see where Toy Story Mania was and saw that it was all blocked off. I then headed over to Star Tours stopping along the way pin trading. I was able to walk right on! This is still my favorite ride at DHS. After Star Tours I went to the Muppet 3-D show which is my second favorite 3-d show on property. I then spent the rest of the morning just moseying along, doing some pin trading, and enjoying the day. Just before 11, I headed over towards the hat to meet Marge and as luck would have it they were about to do the High School Musical show which of course was going to make it very hard to find Marge. As I was standing around trying to figure out where to wait for Marge, she comes up an finds me.

Our first stop was ... PrincessPower, can you guess?.....
Yes you guess right! Star Tours! Again, we were able to walk right on and this time we were in the front row! I was getting hungry about this time so we headed over to the ABC Commisary which I had never tried. Marge wasn't hungry even though I reminded her that dinner wasn't until 8:30 that night. Anyways, I went in and got the fish & chips with a diet coke and we sat at one of the outside tables. I wasn't impressed at all. I would only rate it a 2 out of 5. OK, at least I tried it!

Marge had gotten a FP for TOT before she met me. So we headed over in that area and I sat down at one of the shaded (yes!) tables behind the Anahiem Produce Stand. While I was waiting, I saw everyone getting frozen lemonades. Well I was getting thirsty and definitely hot! So I decided to get one. It definitely hit the spot! It tasted great and really helped me cool off. When Marge got back, I suggested that she get a FP for Rockin Roller Coaster. I am not a big roller coaster persom and when you add in the heat & humidty, I didn't want to go on it. Her FP was only for about an hour later.

I should say that throughout this trip the weather was very hot and humid, but the crowds were great! I have been to WDW in May before but normally I encounter a few really hot days and some nice and warm days. This trip was all really hot.

We headed over to the animation courtyard and Marge did the activity at the end where you answer a series of questions and it gives you the character most like you. The system decided that Tinkerbell is most like Marge. For some reason, I didn't end up doing it.

Next we headed to One Man's Dream which I really enjoyed but I never seem to have enough time in the last room before the movie because I always hit it just as a show is about to start.

They were doing Prince Caspian Meet & Greets and everyone CM that I talked to mentioned that I had to go over to meet him. So Marge & I headed over for it and it was great. Prince Caspian was extremely handsome plus he was incredible with the kids!

Me with Prince Caspian:

Marge with Prince Caspian:
20080516HS_13.jpg

Next we headed to Rock & Roller Coaster for Marge's FP. Again I sat in the same area behind Anahiem Produce to sit, relax, and wait. Throughout the day, I saw lots of lime green shirts but I didn't see any LGMHs.

We decided to do the Great Movie Ride next. We had to wait for probably 10-15 minutes and we were put on a vehicle but we were kind of squished. One of the CM's must of heard us talking because they asked if we would prefer to wait for the next car. We said yes and we ended up right in the front row! I was a little after 3 when we finished and we decided to head back to the resort.

great report!!!!

loving it...oldest is already planning her graduation trip to AKL concierge....2 years from now:rotfl2:

Hi,

You used to have a thread out here where you had the DVC resales listed.

Are you still keeping the list updated?:confused3

Thanks,

Wow! Planning 2 years in advance is some serious planning. Is she planning on letting you go with her or will this be on her own?

OMG -- Prince Caspian is SOOOOO handsome!

It was really funny, even the male CMs were telling me about him and how I had to go see him! I predict that if they keep the meet and greets going with him, then the lines will be really long!

Hi,

Thanks,

Yep, we are on thread #2 now due to the length. Here is the link ROFR prices

Sounds like a good day :goodvibes

I totally agree with your review of the ABC Commissary. I had the fish & chips in December and wasn't thrilled with it. DD had the cheeseburger and fries and couldn't eat it, my Step Mom had it too and agreed with DD that there was a greasy/fishy taste to it. Let's just say that we won't be going back anytime soon :rotfl:

looking forward to the next installment!

Just popping on. Love your report already!

we are paying for it so we get to go!!

Hubby and I both received trips for HS graduation so we are continuing the tradition...with a bit of a difference. We go wherever the graduate wants to as a family. His trip was a business trip to Hawaii and I went by myself to Europe (with a group)...we want it to be a kind of last hoorah as a family.

Let's see if this works. I just scanned the activity list at AKL/AKV and I want to see if I can post it and have it readable.

Thanks for posting the activities.

It is nice to be able to see ahead of time what type of activities they have going on. A few of them look good for when we go in November!:cool1:
