I am here now and would highly suggest that if you have reservations for Club Level in the near future that you save yourself a ton of money by either down grading or relocating. It has been nothing but a giant disappointment. We were aware that the Lounge was going to be relocated to an outside patio on the main level but what we weren’t made aware of is:

You have to seek someone out to find where the priority check in is. That took us standing in the registration line for 20 minutes.

Depending where you room is you may only be able to access it from the Napa Rose elevators, in which case only one is working.

If you are counting on a DVD player in your room and a library to check out movies, that won’t happen because there are no DVD players on the new rooms. Not a deal breaker for me but it is listed as a Club Level perk do I assume that is based on the price of the room.

There has been zero turndown service.

The lemonade and iced tea is watered down because the keep adding ice to get it somewhat cold. The food is not very fresh or cool. The bread on the sandwiches is dry and crusty and the cheese slice are semi melted.

They will not pass out bottles of water because they provide 8 oz plastic cups for water.

Coffee and tea is lukewarm because it is sitting in metal carafes.

The first day provide you with two large bottles of Dasani water which was great because the temperature was over 100 degrees. When I requested two more the following day I was told that I was given the first two so that I could refill the empty bottles in the Lounge. How gross is that??? Now I don’t want anything out of the carafes thinking that people who have had their mouths on the bottles are now touching the spigots with dirty bottles. You would think there would be some health department rule about that.

I was offered preferred viewing to one event per day but due to the ridiculous heat and that I don’t like to be scheduled I requested fast passes. Unfortunately those apparently cost Disney too much.

I have stayed at Club Level at other properties in the past and even once when the Animal Kingdom during a renovation and they relocated it to a couple of rooms and aside from it being a long walk, they stilled offered a nice spread. What they have currently at the Grand is pretty pathetic.

This is just a hotel room with a very high price. Definitely not worth the aggravation. I will never stay at the Grand ever again nor will I recommend it

UPDATE: After setting up priority viewing for WOC through Concierge yesterday morning only to be turned down at multiple preferred viewing areas because the CM’s didn’t know what I was talking about even with the confirmation letter from Concierge. I was told to go to Guest Services at the front of the park. That was the final straw. I spoke to management at the front desk and explained everything in this post and have been downgraded to a standard room rate.

Have you sent a copy of this to Disney and management at the GCH? They should be made aware of your experience.

Bummer, we have always loved concierge there with the previous lounge when traveling with the in laws. The afternoon appetizers were always really good and decent beer and wine in the past. Shame, but sounds like more cost cutting measures.

They are currently renovating the lounge, so I suspect that was the majority of the issue. They discontinued distributing the 12 ounce water bottles well over a year ago. They now put 2-1liter bottles in the room. As far as the DVD player, I have had a room without one, and when I requested one, they sent maintenance up within an hour and had one put in. I've never had the problem with check in, but haven't been there while it was under construction. I've never been a huge fan of the Grand and prefer DLH concierge over the Grand, but that said, I do think most of the above complaints are due to the relocation of the lounge. I think they planned this based on cooling weather, and the weather is not what was expected. To the OP, make sure to discuss this with management now rather than later. I don't think your VIP seating vs FP will fly, but perhaps they could discount you for the loss of services.

Does anyone have an idea of when the lounge will be back in its remodeled location? We are booked for the beginning of December.

After one trip with CL, we found out it was a waste of $$$ for our family.

I'm going to be honest here. I do not feel Concierge is worth it. Paying $200 a night extra at the Grand, I just don't see it. That said, I usually get upgraded to it and I do appreciate it and enjoy it.

I stay at GCH (and VGC) several times a year, and the reports about the temporary concierge lounge are very disappointing -- I'll see first hand next week.

Photos (in GCH superthread) of the outdoor seating literally in the shadow of a 6 story scaffolding is more than disappointing, it's actually alarming -- seems like an OSHA violation.

A few comments on your observations:

The CM at the entry gate should have told you where to check-in or have a Club Level CM meet you at your car.

I hope GCH switches to a streaming service of some sort. Only vague rumors about this.

No excuse for that.

The lounge discontinued water bottles a year or 2 ago, and started leaving 2 larger bottles in the room. No one has suggested to me those bottles should be reused. More than just than cost cutting, this forces more spending for water in the parks.

GCH management should have planned to give fastpasses, but it’s not something a front line CM can do (particularly with FP now linked to tickets). Preferred viewing for night shows (fireworks, F!,WOC) is a valuable accommodation (usually only for VIP tours) — assuming that is being offered.

This is part of what keeps us from staying at the Grand. Concierge prices go up by hotel. It is worth it for our family of 6 at PPH and was definitely worth it at DLH with a party of 8, but I'm not sure it would be worth it for $200 at the Grand. Especially on top of the already pricier suite.

Seems like a health issue. Especially with the cheese melting. This means cold food isn't being kept cold enough, especially in this heat. How long is the renovation supposed to be happening?

That is really disappointing to hear. I am sorry you had such a bad experience. I agree with a previous poster above that you should share your feedback with GCH management,

What they are doing at the Grand is horrible. I love GCH CL and will return once it's back to normal. Had I been subject to what you have been I would never stay there again either.

I disagree with management feedback actually. Disney doesn't give a single darn about this. Not one folks, it's been going on for weeks. There is no way most of the CL guests haven't seethed their anger at management and Disney management hasn't changed anything. Don't waste your time. I would however scathingly NAIL them on every public travel forum out there (like trip advisor) with lovely phrases like "health hazard", "safety hazard", and "complete and utter disregard for guests because this has been going on for weeks".

Did you try to downgrade? One day of that crap and I would have been demanding a downgrade for the rest of my trip since they are not providing what you purchased. (DVDs, turndown service, etc.)

I will disagree. Disney is usually pretty receptive to things like this. I am very surprised about lack of turn down. Only time I have been missed for turn down was when I've had "DO NOT DISTURB" on my door. You can call and request turn down also. I've been known to do this when I want it prior to their actual arrival. I would also be wary of "scathingly nail"ing them on every board because many people will view it as sour grapes and disregard.

I've had very positive results lodging complaints with DIsney regarding issues like this.

Agree completely. There could easily be an outbreak of food poisoning.
In the morning, the temporary location is the Napa Rose -- so that is nice.

It's understandable that GCH does not want to give up any revenue generating locations, but outdoor food service for the afternoon and evenings is just not acceptable.

...How long is the renovation supposed to be happening?
GCH sent emails about starting work on the lounge in August, but it was rescheduled and actually started in mid-September. One post (quoting the GCH General Manager) had a completion target of early November, leaving a few weeks "buffer" before Thanksgiving.

A lounge CM told be the changes are rather extensive:
  • Food service counter moved from the short side walls to the longer wall (entry door side).
  • Long counter on the patio for increased seating, replacing the few tables.
  • More glass (perhaps all glass) on the outside wall, allowing fireworks viewing from inside.

Wow. That's awful. I would downgrade room or go to dh or pp. I'm looking at prices for next year and the difference between theme park room and club theme park room is $350 and while I loved the hotel, I'm having a hard time justifying that price even with reg club service. We really liked the hotel and club but I am astonished that they're not lowering price for club when they've obviously lowered their standards of service. I hope you can enjoy rest of your vacation.

Theme Park View is no longer a category. Premium View is the top category, which groups Pool and Park views together. I dislike pool views, so that's an incentive to NOT book premium view :scared:

FYI, I received a survey about my stay at DGC a few days after we returned home. I filled it out and hopefully they will take to heart what I answered. Keep an eye on your emails when you return home and fill out the survey. The more honest answers they receive, maybe they will make changes for the better.
