Concierge Garden View or Lagoon View at Poly?

Hi all,
I have reservations for a garden view room in August at the Polynesian and am giving serious consideration about upgrading to either the concierge service or a lagoon view.

Each upgrade costs about the same, and am wondering which offers the best bang for the buck. Getting both is just a bit too much.

I will be traveling with the DW, and 2 DD (6 and 3). We are staying a week and have signed up for the MYW + Dining option (it's a goal with every vacation that we sit down as a family and have a nice meal).

All insights would be appreciated.

Thanks.

My wife and I have stayed at the Polynesian Concierge the last two summers in a garden view room. We loved the concierge location and the lounge and staff are both WONDERFUL. That being said last summer we traveled with another couple and they did have a Lagoon View and it was spectacular.

The good news is you can't go wrong with either option, but I would vote garden view concierge. You will have access to the lounge with an amazing lagoon view, and the expertise and help of the staff is wonderful benefit.

If there are any specific questions I could answer for you please feel free to drop me a private message.

My suggestion would be garden view concierge since you'd then have all the benefits of concierge and still have the great view of the lagoon and castle from the concierge lounge. :) With the dining plan I believe you get 1 sit down meal, 1 counter meal, plus a snack each day, but you wouldn't need to use either of the meals for breakfast since you could have breakfast in the lounge each morning :)

P.S. I have to say, I fell asleep with the laptop open, just woke up, and realize I was just dreaming about the concierge lounge. I was upset in my dream because it was our first evening at the concierge and I got lost in the Hawaii building and was missing the fireworks. LOL :rotfl:

I would do the garden view concierge b/c the garden view rooms still have awesome views of the Contemporary, GF, etc.

GVC. Concierge is what made our Poly trip for us. I'd rather have those benefits than the Lagoon view. You'll still have that view from the lounge.

I love both and either way you will enjoy it but I myself would take the lagoon view every time. No I don’t spend much time in my room but the lagoon view from my own patio is not to be compared with the view from a table in the lounge. The look on the face of anyone who has ever gone to the Polynesian with me and they open the curtain to look at the view is almost worth the price alone but being able to wander over to the slider and look out at the lagoon is what does it for me. I also enjoy the ground level because the grass and beach almost seem like my own back yard. I can wake up and roll out of bed and sit on the patio drinking my coffee and reading the paper while the whistle of the train in the MK goes off and the MK comes alive. I can peek at the fireworks anytime I am in the room instead of running up to the lounge to watch.

I love concierge but if I could only do one I would do the lagoon view but I know most disagree.

Aloha

Steve

When you're spending that much for a room already, it's really only a little more for a lot more magic. The lagoon view from the Hawaii building is unparalleled at WDW. I'd absolutely agree with Tikiman, and book the LV. In fact if I couldn't get LV there, I'd probably choose to stay CL at the AKL instead!

Are you sure about that? I don't think you can see either from a CL GV room at the PR.

I'd rec that you stay in Concierge... with two young DDs, you and DW might like the snacks (so convenient) and the Concierge's pre-planning services-- get them to book your character meals for you! I'd wager that your girls (like mine) would LOVE to eat breakfast at the Castle. ;)

My family stayed in a lagoon view room and the view overlooking the lagoon is simply spectacular. You see the castle changing color, Tinkerbell at the beginning of the fireworks show, the fireworks, and of course the lagoon electrical parade. It is very nice. This year we have my one year old traveling with DH, DD (11) and DS(8). We chose the concierge (GV) and are looking forward to the extras ,ease in the morning, and mid day breaks. I really wanted the suite but as I said before in an earlier post they were all booked for our travel times. I have to admit when I made this reservation there were only 3 other GVCL rooms available. Good luck.

I would also go for GV concierge with your girls. You will love the convenience of milk and juice boxes right down the hall and lagoon view from the lounge. I do LOVE LV and know I'm going to miss it on our next trip but I just can't "justify" the extra expense on this trip of 9 nights and I can NOT give up concierge. We find it really convenient to have one adult take the kids to the lounge while the other gets ready for the day.

Although I wasn't 100% in love with concierge service when we were there in May - I would book garden view concierge over lagoon anyday. We were one of very few people that actually was upgraded to lagoon view concierge at check in :cool1: (we booked garden concierge) and while the site was beautiful, we weren't in there a lot to really enjoy them. It was nice to see the castle in the AM but we only saw grad night fireworks at midnight once since we were never in our room at 9pm. Usually at the parks or in the lounge (which has the view!!)

For your 2 little ones, breakfast in the AM, juice boxes and water to take to the parks, snacks for afternoon when you come back to rest, hot appetizers before you head back out again, cookies and milk and desserts at night. Wine for you and DH before going to bed. A place to go and relax if it is raining. Others kids hanging out watching cartoons too. You can actually relax there. You can't beat it.

Also - my opinion, the garden views are of the quiet pool and they are that - QUIET. Out lagoon view was pretty noisy with the sand sweeper out bright and early, kids running up and down the paths to the TTC and boats at 6am and noisy teenagers hanging out on the hammocks until 2am - didn't make for a tranquil feeling!

One more thing, some lagoon view longhouses are further away to main building and the main pool. For little ones, I think the Hawaii building was ideal. The pool was right outside your door!!!

go with concierge and enjoy the best views in the lounge - I guarantee you will be in there more then your room while at the resort.

When I was a tween, we spent one night Concierge in the Contemporary Tower. It was nice staying in the tower, but on the whole, it was not a very special experience. I didn't even remember the Concierge lounge... in fact, I completely forgot we ever stayed Concierge. I thought we just had a tower room, until my dad told me a few months ago that it had been Concierge.

When I was a kid, we had a lagoon view room at the Poly once (we usually opted for garden view). One of my most vivid disney memories is of watching the electric water pagent from our hotel room. My sister and I were all bundled in our pj's, watching what seemed like a show just for us. It was a magical end to a disney day.

I love concierge service and I would pick that over a view just because most of my time is spend outside of the room and although the view is wonderful, sunrises and sunsets can be some of the best, they only last a few minutes "IF" you catch them at all. Concierge service can be helpful when or if you have problems, the pre-planning office could really come in handy when making your dining reservations as well as any extras you may want to book and there is the lounge. Nothing like coming back to the resort and going into the lounge for something to drink or to snack on.

I would vote for concierge service-garden view.

We stayed Poly Lagoon View Concierge last summer. I would definitely stay concierge again, but not lagoon view. I did not feel it was worth the extra money. We were at the parks ALOT and did not benefit from a lagoon view, but we did benefit greatly from the lounge If you stay concierge, you will have a GREAT view from the concierge lounge which is just beautiful and so relaxing. It is also so convenient with kids to run up for breakfast in the morning or a snack or drink throughout the day.

I guess I'm also in the minority in that I'd take a regular Lagoon View room over Garden View Concierge in a heartbeat, no question. Don't get me wrong, I love the concierge at the Poly but I like watching the EWP and the fireworks over the castle from my room too much to give it up. I relax and smile just thinking about a lagoon view room :)

I'm spoiled!! (I'll blame DH on that one.) We always wanted to try concierge and 2 years ago we finally booked it . . . and then DH said how about lagoon view also! At that time, concierge was under rehab and we were in the Tahiti building. We fell in love with concierge but also the view! Last year we decided to just go concierge and booked garden view. As much as I loved the concierge service, I SO MISSED the view of the castle and lake. This year, its lagoon view concierge again. Yes, it's a lot of money - but you can't beat that feeling (wishing so much I was there right now). I always kid the family that "next time" we are staying at a value resort - of course, they all say "yeah, right".

Given the ages of your children, I would choose GV concierge. We booked GV concierge last June and it was great. We watched the Fireworks from the pool or the lounge or the beach, we really didn't miss the view. Now, however, I don't think I could survive without a concierge lounge and pre-planning staff. It's nice with little ones that age to be able to get them a drink or a snack any time and it's just right down the hall.

I would do the garden view concierge b/c the garden view rooms still have awesome views of the Contemporary, GF, etc.

This is not true of garden view concierge rooms. Those rooms face the quiet pool area and lovely landscaping.

It is true of some regular garden view rooms....but not garden view concierge rooms in Hawaii.

To the OP, hard choice. Concierge is a wonderful treat but lagoon view is magical. As others have pointed out though, Hawaii has a great central location. Good luck in your decision but at least you'll know either will be great.....have fun. :cool1:
