Thanks RachelTori! Sounds great! We stayed CL at the Poly a few years back and we loved it, and the AKL sounds just as nice. I forgot the most important question...is there chocolate milk in the AKL lounge? Any yogurt or pudding? Juiceboxes? And BTW, what is the African Smoothie? Sounds delish!

I would say AKL. Here's why:

-The breakfast offerings are great. AKL offers warm oatmeal and quinoa (the quinoa was great), as well as some nice pastries. Also, I loved the fruit that AKL had. The juicy grapes were especially delicious.

-Afternoon snacks were also wonderful. The kettle chips were thick and very tasty, and the cookies were nice (chocolate chip, white chocolate macadamia, etc).

-AKL is the only CL (besides GF) to offer scones in the afternoon - they're a nice treat.

-Evening offerings are unique but delicious. The cheeses are great, there were dips from Boma with various breads, and the warm offerings were very flavorful. Also, there's usually some South African wines to try, which are amazing.

-Desserts sometimes include zebra domes (although we didn't try the CL desserts while at AKL).

-The African smoothie is a unique drink that isn't available anywhere else.

-By staying CL at AKL, you can do a special safari that you couldn't do while staying at other resorts.

Hi Donald! Thanks so much for your input! I'm really considering the AK CL. I think it may be a tie between AKL CL and the POLY CL!

They do have chocolate milk, yougart, juice boxes-and unlike Poly they are in a cooler(fridge) so you don't have to ask for them.

Comparing Poly CL to AKL CL-the AKL CL breakfast was a lot better than Poly. I enjoyed the evening offerings (5-7pm) at AKL but they are not as kid friendly. The veggies at AKL are all marinated, the cheese was mostly smoked, the warm offerings were usually spiced. They did always have PBJ's.

Poly would also be a fabulous choice. The lounge has a picture perfect view of the beach, lagoon, castle, and fireworks. The Hawaii CL building has a very ideal location, near both pools, the boat dock to MK, the beach, and the main building.

Also, Poly's food offerings are nice. Instead of the African smoothie, there's orange guava passion fruit juice. The evening offerings are Polynesian-inspired, and sometimes include items from Kona Cafe. Also, ironically, the Poly is the only CL that has South African rooibos tea (also known as red tea). It's tasty, healthy, and caffeine free, and not even AKL has this tea. I'm biased because my family is from South Africa, but to us it's a really nice touch.

If you stayed at AKL last time, Poly could be a good choice for the fabulous proximity to MK. But both choices are great!

I have a silly question: Can DH "two fist" the beers from the club?

If he does decide to have a beer, he will usually go for two. Does he need take one and then go back if he wants another OR can he just take two in one shot?

I think this is a great question! :thumbsup2

We just book Cl at the Beach club for our trip in October. I plan on making all of my own ADR's, so do I need to send an email to IPO?

Thanks,
Erin

No, but after you've made the ADRs the IPO can put an Itinerary together for you and email it to you. :goodvibes

OK so not to sound like a total NewBee but what would I want to say when I cantact IPO for the first time?

I always suggest putting the Reservation number and dates as the title. Then, just introduce your family; tell the IPO that you plan to make your own ADRs (or have made them) and would they put the itinerary together for you? If there's anything they can do for you or any information you want, just ask them -- that's their job! ;)

Great thanks! We are so excited! Our trip last year was ended early due to a death in the family. We are looking forward to having a "do over".

Does IPO have access to ADR times/locations that aren't accessible to the general public?

Let me explain, we currently have an ADR at Ohana's for 6:20 PM on May 19th and I would like to move it up to 5:00 PM (when Ohana's opens) so we can try to get to DHS to see Fantasmic at 9:00 PM (we need to be on our way from Ohana's by 6:15-6:30). There aren't any public times available at Ohana's at all for the entire 10 days we are at Disney. If Ohana had a dinner on a different evening I would be willing to switch things around. I've tried to do it myself but like I said Ohana doesn't have any other openings for the 10 days we are there.

Could IPO help at all or do they only have access to the same available reservations as I do through the online reservation site?

The Polynesian IPO may be able to help you. I know they have a certain number of tables they can book "last minute" for concierge guests. It sure wouldn't hurt to ask. We've been successful in the past getting an ADR while we were at Disney.

Thanks! Since we are staying at the GF I'm assuming I have to go through IPO there. I will try emailing them to see if they can do anything.

So I think we have definitely decided to book AKL for our 2011 trip. We are strongly considering CL. Can someone tell me about the beer and wine offerings in the lounge? What time is beer available? Can you take it out to the pool area? As far as wine, can you get a glass and then head back to the room to enjoy it on the balconey?

TIA

I had a similar issue with needing to add people to my Ohana reservation at the beginning of May. IPO tried but there wasn't any availability. I did check the regular online reservation system every day and I finally got what I needed. So just keep checking if IPO can't assist!

I had a glass of African wine one evening. It was nice. Don't remember what it was.

I mostly had Tusker beer. Really liked that! It is out from 5-7 but you can ask at other times. I asked for one on our arrival day-I think it was about 4pm. I never asked at AKL at any other time but when I was at Poly last August I never had any problems getting a beer in the afternoon before they were put out at 5pm.

They would ask if I was going to the pool so they could give me a plastic cup to take to the pool.
