Hello there all you experts!

I am staying at AKL CL for the first time! We requested Arusha view, just because I didn't know if there was another savannah view and requested a king bed.

We are going all out, making sure to have all the bells and whistles and this thread has really helped me sooo much!!

There are two questions I wanted to ask, but now only one because I can't remember the other! lol

1) I called up my IPO at AKL and spoke with Juanita about getting a special surprise in our room on arrival. She told me that I would have to call Disney Florist and they would help me with any special gifts or surprises I wanted. I was a little disappointed, because I had heard from another that they had gotten a stuffed animal from the resort IPO/Conceirge and had it waiting on the bed for her DD the first night and then one every night after that. Then I started reading the thread here and the old thread and saw that there was edible goodies that they can prepare for you. I was, again, completely confused. Does AKL IPO not do special things anymore like that or was I speaking to the wrong person??

2) Another Dis member posted a pic of a plate of delicious looking desserts and chocolate covered strawberries with an AKL card. Are you able to order that or is that available for CL?? Please help me! The photo in question is :

I can't say for certain whether they still shop for surprises or not. With all the cutbacks and changes in the past couple of years, they might not have the personnel to actually do the shopping anymore.

Juanita has been there many years; she & Don are probably the best people to give you accurate information.

I'm not sure where that edible arrangement came from, but the IPO should be able to arrange that for you; or at least direct you to someone who will! During our trips, we've arranged for small cakes and Zebra Dome platters to be delivered to our room at a specific time. The Lounge CM's need 24 hour notice.

Guess this wasn't much help. Maybe I'll be able to help more with your second question!!

Their lounge is located on the 4th floor, so your room would either be on the 3rd or 4th floor.

There are two different hot items along with various Salads each day from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM. As for some specifc items one night was Veggie Spring Rolls and Chicken Skewers, along with Orzo Salad.

Yes they have a machine like that which you see when you enter the lounge.

I think I can help a little I do know there have been cuts at many of the resorts. I don't know if the IPO's are still able to purchase items to place in the room for you. I would suggest you write IPO CM's askiing if they could give you a list, price and if possible pictures of food items available through private dining or guest services. I know they have done some wonderful food items presentations in the past.

If you wanted something inspired by Africa you may ask if they would be willing to buy somthing from the gift shop on property. There are many wonderful items there. Shirts, hand-craved items, stuffed animals, IPO would charge your credit card and have it waiting in your room with a note if you wish. At least they were able to do this in the past.

That picture looks wonderful, maybe send it with your e-mail and see if it is available and what the price is. Please share what you find out with us all.

You know, it's funny that you say that Juanita is one of the best. She wasn't that friendly or magical on the phone as what I normally would expect and usually receive.

Maybe she was having an off day both days that I spoke with her. I hope so! I do love speaking with Don(ald Duck) and Sue. They are both wonderful and really went above and beyond the call of duty as IP's! He even talked me into getting a reflexology treatment on top of my spa package!

I may call again or send an email with the image, maybe?? Do you think that it would be possible for them to check out a picture that is in an email??

"Management" may be encouraging the IPOs to refer guests to Disney Florist. Poly and several other CL's began directing their guests there several years ago (based on many posts). AKL had appeared to be the last hold-out, but lately I'm seeing that they too are making the Disney Florist Referral.

dsnygrl21, I never said Juanita was one of the nicest laughing: although I've always found her very pleasant!), but she is one of the best in terms of being "in the know".

I'd still ask at least one more time!! If there's nothing Disney Florist has that you're interested in and something from Zawadi would make you happy, maybe they can accommodate you. I'd also tell them about a "friend" who had stuffed animals, etc. delivered to their room.

No events/deminars for us--another couple will be joining us for part of the vacation. They are new to the F&WF and we will be happy just to tour with them.

We would enjoy meeting to say hello. I haven't put together our park touring schedule yet, but we are really flexible for the most part and will spend most of our afternoons at EPCOT or the quiet pool at BC.

Aw, I feel a little like the same. I should have given them my ADR's to do but I didn't really know they did that until after I had made all my plans!

Yes, juanita is probably in the know, for sure! She may be tired of all my calls!

I am going to call them now and see what they can do for me in terms of edible plates and such. If they redirect me, at least hopefully I will have a list of things they are able to do!

I will give you the scoop when I hear from them!!

Yes. I am told to call and arrange it myself with the Disney Florist.

I just called IPO at AKL and spoke with Patti who is not actually in the IPO there. Guess it's a call center in case someone is unavailable to speak with. She didn't know much information for me and said that she would have to get in touch directly with the people at AKL IPO. So, I am anxiously awaiting to see what they can do for me.

It sounds like I am going to be directed to private dining...

UPDATE:

Okay, they referred me to private dining. The number is: (407) 938-4720

I'm not quite sure if that is the main private dining or if that is just for AKL. She mentioned a few different plates to me:

1) Zebra Dome plate with a chocolate bow = $20.00

2) Carribuni(sp?) with included cheeses and fruits and a few other things = $35.00

3) Chocolate Strawberry Plate with I believe a dozen chocolate strawberries = $30.00

4) She also mentioned a chocolate truffle plate but did not give me a price. I kinda cut her off before she could!

I asked if I could mix and match stuff. She said that would be fine! The chocolate strawberries are $3.00 a piece and big cookies(oatmeal, chocolate chip and macadamia nut) ranged from $1.99 to $2.00 each.

She said that the chocolate elephant was no longer available and they couldn't do something like that.

The plate that I requested is a half dozen chocolate strawberries, a few truffles, 6 cookies(2 of each) and the designed AKL Chocolate bar.

They said they will decorate the plate too and make it look very pretty! Give them your credit card info and they will not charge the card until that day. I am getting this delivered in the middle of our trip while we are at Epcot.

SO EXCITED though a little disappointed that I had to handle everything myself, lol. Oh well, I still got what I wanted!
