Concerning paying for dining OOP

Thanks for that reference, it's only DH and I so this is never an issue for us, even when the kiddos where at home, only 4 then, I will let my friend know, I don't know if there is anything that can be done now.

Thanks again

No problem! It's sad that Disney's employees seem to get more dishonest by the day.

The part about people versus meals is true. Even if the 6th person is an infant, it triggers the automatic gratuity. But is that really a bad thing? It shouldn't be much, if any, more than a normal gratuity.

I hope that it would not be a point of dishonesty, but more along the lines, of a new employee or a language issue/ barrier, or just not knowing.

We've never used the dining plan and it's always worked out much cheaper for us.

Never did the dining plan but I can tell you we had bottles of water that we'd drink with all our meals in the parks and in lost 5 lbs and I ate ice cream daily! We only had soda on pool days with our resort mugs.

I did budget $40/meal for our family of 5 not including the 2 TS meals and we still paid less then the dining plan. We even shipped breakfast and would eat while everyone was getting ready.

We have not bought the dining plan for several years and never come close to paying dining plan prices. However, we do not do a lot of the more expensive buffets. Have you considered having chef mickeys for breakfast or brunch instead of dinner? Also at Whispering Canyon, there is no sharing on the skillets. (don't know if you were planning to order them).
Thanks for letting me know about the no sharing on the skillets. That's usually what we get, so I will have to look at their menu again. And yes we are doing Chef Mickey's for breakfast. :) Thanks!

So with Ohana...my youngest is 10 but she won't eat any of the family style food at Ohana. Can she order kid's meal there (the chicken nuggets and hotdogs they usually give my kids) or does we have to pay the full amount for her?

She can order the kids food, but she'll be charged adult prices.

We paid OOP for our food this past trip and did Chef Mickey's and Ohana. DD is still 9 but our meals with tips were still about $200.

Next trip when they are both Disney adults, if I'm paying OOP, we will do ONE character breakfast. No more buffet places. It's too much money. I would rather enjoy a signature meal at that price.

Does anyone do signature restaurants while paying OOP and notice it comes out around the same or cheaper? DH and enjoy a lot of the signature meals (Le Cellier, California Grill), and it was nice to have the DxDP for our honeymoon and order a $50 filet and not have to worry about the cost since it was prepaid. Is it still worth it to go OOP when eating at signatures? DH is NOT a fan of quick service, and we ate A LOT on our honeymoon. Vacations are all about the food for us!

The Deluxe plan makes it easier to break even, but it really depends how you eat. Since we would never order an appetizer for each and every person at every meal, the math just never works out. OOP is often much cheaper for us, and we mostly eat at signatures.
