Concerning News I Got about DAS

I didn't know that they issued a DAS pass for that. My daughter suffers with the same condition. Sitting is her worst position. Standing without moving is second worse position. She's flying down today and won't have time to get a doctors note for tomorrow. I wonder if she should still try to do the interview. She might be able to pull up her recent MRI report from her phone. She actually can't even ride many of the rides.
Guest Services will not look at MRI's or a Dr's note.
She will need to tell them why she is requesting a DAS.

She won't need any reports. She will talk to the Guest Relations person at City Hall or Chamber of Commerce and give them a brief explanation of how her issues affect her park experience and how a DAS could help. Not really an interview, though some call it that.

She doesn’t need a doctors note. She just needs to be able to explain what her issues are and what accommodations she needs.

I thought they started asking for proof years ago due to so many people scamming the system? Would a doctor's note that outlines your physical issues be sufficient for them?
They have never asked for proof and are not legally allowed to do so.

She does not need a doctors note and Disney will not look at it. This post is riddled with bad info.

No. Even with a DAS, you have to get a BG like everyone else. If the CM did do something like this, they could get in trouble.

That said, we had great signals all the way thru the line. We have gotten WS several times in the Rise line, even inside the caves.
I didn't look that closely at what was on his phone, but he showed a BG for WS and it was still before noon and they were in line for ROTR. Not sure how the CM did that but it sounds like it was not allowed...

We had a good signal too in the line, but my DH who was back home in Texas on our home wifi was able to snag us one even faster than we could!

My dad uses an electric wheelchair. On our previous trips to DLR and WDW he was told not to get a DAS and we haven’t. Most lines accommodate his wheelchair and when we get to a point in a queue where it isn’t accessible, they just direct him to another area.
if you only have mobility issues then you're right and they will deny a DAS for that reason...they will suggest you rent an ECV or wheelchair....

We were there this weekend. We had a ROTR BG, and were in line for it nearing noon, when we were going to try for a WS BG since we had hoppers. We were chatting with those around us in the ROTR line about who was trying for WS, did we think we would have enough signal while in the ROTR line, etc. The folks in front of us were young men (early 20s) and they said they were not going to have to try for WS because they already had a BG. I thought this was impossible since it was clearly before 1pm PH time, and clearly before noon drop of WS (and they were in line for ROTR, so I assumed they got that BG at the 7am drop). He said his brother was a CM and had gotten them WS BG’s before noon with “some kind of disability pass” even though they were not disabled by their own admission. Is this allowed??
for the life of me I couldnt figure out what WS was and then it clicked lol

Please note that DAS has little to do with ADA compliance. DCA for the most part is ADA compliant. DAS takes into account a bit more intangibles.

Yes, one (or person's advocate) needs to be able to voice the reason why utilizing the DAS will alleviate impediments to riding

Really? I know it was a big deal about 10 years ago when they switched it so it was no longer a line skipping pass and people would actually have to wait the current wait time for the ride. Up to that point the abuse of the system was rampant. I thought I remembered back then reading on Disney boards about it being much harder to get the passes after that too. Maybe that was a short lived thing.

It’s against ADA law to ask for proof. But if someone really needs it they need to be their own advocate.

They won't look at notes.

It had nothing to do with scams, though that was the excuse they gave at the time. (much like rundisney saying that "the city" was the reason they can't do runs at Disneyland anymore, when the race Disney canceled had never been put up for permits) Any unfairness causing CMs problems was caused by other CMs going above and beyond for other, vocal, people.

Up to that point the abuse of the system was rampant.

Not really. I moved around Disneyland with a friend who used a scooter, and we waited through the lines that could be waited through and were never sent to the front of the line.

The issue was other CMs who gave extra bonuses to people. Those bonuses should have been stopped. But like disney loves to do, if there's a problem they just stop the program or alter it massively. Disney should take some classes in the art of subtle changes.

That's what it was always meant to be, FWIW.

I would say there was clear abuses to the system that gave Front of line access - so much so folk would actually advertise and hire our their access to total strangers for ride along parties.

When we had that pass, we often felt bad about getting front of line immediately to rides like mania and RSR. DAS revisions made it much more equitable and still embodied the essence of what Disney is trying to do.

I agree with you, prior to the revisions in 2013, abuse was very rampant in the GAC program. I KNOW people who abused it. It was disgusting.

The change to DAS was a massive improvement.
