OK DD and I are going for 6 days for a "girls" only trip in December(2nd week). Well we are NOT going to be renting a car and we are staying at Shades of Green. I have read somewhere that SoG is easily walking distance to the Poly for easy access to the monorail. But what about park hopping without using your own car? Is it a HUGE pain to use only WDW transportation?Any advice? :confused3 THANKS!!!!Julie

We've never stayed at SoG, but from our experience, WDW transportation is the way to go. The only times we've experienced long bus rides or waits are at park closing. Other than that, it's great!

I have never rented a car and always used WDW transportation. It's great! :)

We LOVE Disney transportation!!!!!!! WIth all of our visits, have only had two times where the wait was long but that was after a Fantasmic Show and MNSSHP. It is not perfect but what transportation process would be with the space to be covered and all the people. Even on a bad day, it has to be better than parking your own car, walking to and fro from the park, dealing with traffice, maybe rain, etc.

Stick with Disney transportation and you will be fine!

I hate Disney transportation and will always rent a car from now on. I stayed at the Polynesian, easily the most convenient hotel to Disney transportation, and still found that I used my rental car every day. In all fairness, I think that Disney transportation is very well run and I do think that they have done the best job that can be done with it. It's just that to me, standing and waiting for a bus is something to do on a work day at home, not on vacation. (Monorail is a different story, it's great!) Park hopping is not so bad on Disney transportation, but forget about going to another hotel for dinner, it takes forever. Lots of people swear by it though, so I think it really depends on the individual. Many people find driving and parking their own car more difficult than taking the bus.

We stayed at SOG and did not use our car to go to any of the parks. BUT after standing out in the middle of the parking lot at Animal Kingdom I would suggest driving to that one park. WDW transportation and SOG transportation were fine the rest of the time. Enjoy your trip.

sprinkle in some taxi cab rides and you can make it work nicely :thumbsup2

I'd take the bus to the park and a cab on the way back (to avoide lines)

I took a cab to another hotel for diner (to be on time) and then use Disney transportation to get back.

Took the taxi to MGM (wanted to get their in a hurry) and then took the boat ride home, when I wasn't in a hurry.

Took the bus to DTD but treated myself to a cab home (tierd and sleepy)

I spent $120 on cabs over the week....still cheaper then renting a car :cool1:

I've stayed at SOG and the only time I used our car (we drove to FL) was when we went into the city, anything on Disney property we used SOG and Disney buses to get to. Even using the buses to get to dinner at other resort, or just to go visit other resorts was not a problem at all.

Park hopping is not so bad with Disney transportation, if you go from one park to the next closest one. For instance, if you're in MGM, hop to EPCOT next, instead of MK. If you go to EPCOT from MGM, you can take the nice boats. Go to MK, and it's a bus ride, possibly to the TTC first. If you stick to the park closest to the one you're leaving, it's really not bad at all, even if it's a bus ride.

We always have a car at WDW but seldom use it. We are primarily at one of the Epcot resorts and can take the frienship boats to Epcot or MGM although we prefer to walk to Epcot. We will either take the bus to MK or walk through Epcot and take the monorail to th TTC and change to the MK monorail. It takes alittle time but you are in the middle of the Disney magic the whole time. We have on occasion driven to AK since you can park fairly close to the entrance at times.

Markstudy, cabs may be a good idea for us and I'm wondering if it would beat the cost of renting a car. How do you arrange for a cab - let's say for four of us to get from AK back to the WL? Do you have to arrange a time in advance or can you call last minute? Is there a long wait? We'll be in WDW second week in May. Also would anyone know about how much would it cost to get from AK and MGM back to WL? Thanks so much!!!
