In September we ventured down for Free Dinning and enjoyed 7 great TS meals. I had been concerned about being a party of 2 but we recieved excellent seating and service, including a tank side table at the Coral Reef.

Our last trip to O'hanas was in 12/01 and we greatly enjoyed our experience; including a window-side table overlooking the lagoon/castle. I decided to make ADRs for our upcoming August trip.

I've been reading some recent reviews and have some concerns. One mentioned a table of two getting neglected and placed in a horrible corner location. Others mentioned horrendous service, no refills, no mickey waffles, etc.

I picked O'hanas over Kona for the offerings as it had a little bit more of a variety for one set price. We're not big into the characters and dont mind if we dont get to see everyone, but this is scheduled as a surprise for him on our first day and I don't want it to be a sour start to the vacation.

Any advice or insight? Are families with kids favored more at the Character meals?

I preferred our Ohana breakfast over our Kona breakfast for the reasons you suggest: greater selection. I did have a family of 4, so I can't say if a table for 2 felt neglected. However I do recall a couple at a table for 2 next to ours, which was in a fine spot. The characters dutifully came to their table and they took pictures with all of them (we were next in the rotation). As far as service goes, since most of the service is a family style platter, I don't think it would matter whether it was taken to a family or a table for 2 - everyone gets the same thing (perhaps in different amounts). I suspect a table for 2 adults might want to eat/finish faster than a family with young kids who linger over the characters. The pace of service may be geared toward those who want to linger, and who are engaged with the characters.

Honestly, I think this just depends on the waiter, not the restaurant. I think in every restaurant, you always find one server who displays unequal treatment because you are a couple (i.e. smaller tip) or have alot of kids or something.

My DBF & I had a terrible server at LTT-she had a very self-rightous attitude and basically ignored us through most of our meal, it was a huge effort to grab her attention to bring us seconds or refill drinks, and tried to rush us out at the end. They were very busy that night, but she was clearly hanging out and kissing up to the larger parties surrounding us.

Our experience with her was annoying, but we loved the food, atmosphere, & characters at LTT, we are definately planning to eat at LTT again.

Don't let one bad server experience draw you away from a place that might be great. You likely won't get that server again.

BTW, as for seating location, they gotta seat somewhere there. We got yucky seating location at LTT but we couldn't do much about that. The place was full and we chose to eat during a dinner hour. Someone always ends up in "that seat." No sense in complaining, unless it's a location that makes you ill or something. Just focus on the meal and the fun!

We LOVED O'Hana's for dinner and re-booked it for our upcoming trip.
My sister in law went Feb and had a terrible experience with LONG waits for food and an "MIA" waiter, so as usual, I have to agree,
Wait Staff is SO IMPORTANT to the success of a dining experience!

We went last October not during free dinning. It was 2 adults only and had a seat right next to the window over looking the lagoon! It was perfect in every way. I suggest the BAckscratcher as a drink ;)

Dh and I have been to O'hana several times just the 2 of us. We were not neglected in any way. Our servers were always very nice and did a great job. Even the characters were good even through we didn't have any kids.

Also a tip for the Mickey waffles. They now have someone bring them to each table. When they come to your table ask for 2-3 of them. We've never been denyed. Oh and we've asked for more but it does usually take a little bit to get them.

We have had hit and miss service with 'Ohana. In most cases it's been very good. On our last trip however the service was lacking alot! The food however was still very good. Seemed that she just had way too many tables to keep up with. We still would never take it completely off our list though....we love all the Poly resturants!

Thanks so much for the quick responses! We've always been extremely lucky with service in Disney, never a complaint.

I had a similar situation at CRT for Dinner as a surprise for my mom and we both loved it; recieved a beautiful table overlooking Fantasyland and fantastic, friendly server. Keeping my fingers crossed for a similar experience!

Hopefully we'll luck out server wise and the table situation isn't vital; I just don't want to get with a double whammy: poor table and horrible service! He's a garbage disposal when it comes to food, a fast, show no mercy disposal lol. Thanks for the Mickey waffle tip... we'll need it.

Thanks again for the tips and advice... I'm going to keep my ADR and hope for the best!
