My DW and I are going on our 5th Anniversary trip to the World on May 6th. We have abviously heard all about the unfortunate death on MS. Apparently she had high blood pressure and died of a stroke.

I'm concerned that I have High Bloog pressure too and am overweight (265#). I take medicine for the BP, but wasn't sure that makes a difference as far as the risk factors on this ride.

I certainly want to live to return to WDW for our 10th anniversary. Anyone have any info if medicated High Blood pressure is ok for this ride?

Thanks

Definitely check with your doctor but I take the posted warning signs very seriously! Nothing is worth the risk.

There are many things that someone with HBP "shouldn't" do. Unfortunately, no one can rationally tell you that you'd be safe on an attraction that warns off guests with HBP. There indeed may be many other rides at WDW that you should avoid. Wish I had better news.

I have high bloodpressure and am on medication. I rode MS and nearly passed out. Not I said Nearly! But in light of the recent accident, I am taking the high blood pressure warning very seriously and will not ride it again. Yes it was cool and I am glad I did it. But claustrophobia+high blood pressure= big problems.
Now I am mentioning the claustrophobia because of your size(I am rather fluffy myself) and it was tight. They do spray air on you after about a minute but that is the longest minute of darkness I ever felt(actually it was probably just a few seconds but it felt like an eternity)

Once was enough on that ride for me and I enjoy all rides! I too have the same issues as you.....on the ride I felt a pressure on my chest (due to the ride) and just couldn't wait til I was off of it. My husband is a lightweight (both physically and ridewise) and on no meds at all and got really ill.

Lesson learned for me on this ride, even though WDW posts all it's 'warnings' on it's rides,I've never read them nor paid much of attention NOR have I ever had this kind of problem on the rides. From now on, I'll pay more attention.

All that said, I'd recommend you stay off of it.

No ride is worth your life.

MS is intense. With your health considerations, I would skip it.

If you have any concerns, DON"T RIDE IT! I know me and family won't

Yeah, exactly. This is the key issue here. Chances are, if you ride, you will be fine. BUT, if you have the slightest bit of concern, even the slightest doubt, it is most certainly not worth the risk. Skip the ride. There are plenty of other great things to do.

Of course, if you are deadset (no pun intended) on riding the ride, get a quick physical before your trip, and talk with your doctor about potential health risks.

I wouldn't ride it. It isn't worth the risk - even if it's a slight risk - I would pass. There are so many other fun things to do, you won't miss it.

If you fit the class that's in the warnings, I wouldn't ride it. Just ride Soarin' twice instead. :thumbsup2

Really, if you are "concerned" you may just hype yourself up over it too much anyway. If you really are concerned, just bypass riding M:S.
I have HBP, and have been treated for it for years. I ride any ride I want and have no ill effects on any.
I rode it once. Would not be afraid to again. But can't say the ride did that much for me the first time around. Glad I did it. But not a must do again. Guess I like a nostalgical feeling or story behind my favorite rides -- like ToT. Even EE and (gasp) Mummy at USO is pretty cool.
I think with all the hype I would be more worried over stomach than anything. Which really is silly because it did not affect me physically in anyway the time I did ride it.

I agree with all of you. I also thought that I didn't want to even get sick from it. What a terrible thing to happen at the happiest Place on Earth. I just don't think I want to risk even getting a little queazy from it. I believe I will sit this one out.

I would definately check with your Dr. It depends on a lot of factors, including what type of BP meds you are on. Mom is 81, on beta blockers, BP is controlled, and she does fine on MS.

I'd say if you have any doubts at all, skip it and just go play at Mission Control. I personally liked that area better than the ride.

We plan on skipping MS on this upcoming trip. I dont want to take a chance just in case. Both my DH & myself are overweight & I have had on occasion borderline HBP that only needed medication while pregnant. Not palnning on being pregnant but still why risk it ? & I also don't want to risk feeling queasy when we're going to Le Cellier for the first time ! :rotfl2:

How do you skip the ride & check out the Mission Control area. My DS (3) would probably love that area ?

I have high blood pressure, too, and I talked to my doc before our trip last year. She told me that my blood pressure was controlled and with my meds it stays really good, almost perfect. She said it was okay for me to ride the rides, to enjoy myself. I did ride RnR and didn't have any side effects from it. However, I would NOT, whether I had high blood pressure or not, ride M:S. I've heard too much about it and know people who've ridden it. I'm not risking my life for a ride.
